Position Overview
We are seeking a self employed Steel Erector / Welder Fabricator to join our team in a hybrid role. This position primarily involves on-site steel erection, with the ability to carry out welding and fabrication works on site where required, as well as support workshop fabrication during quieter site periods or when project demands require.
This role suits an experienced steelworker who is practical, safety-focused, and flexible, with strong fabrication and welding capability alongside erection experience.
Key Responsibilities
Site-Based Steel Erection
Assemble and erect structural steelwork in accordance with engineering drawings and method statements.
Safely sling, lift, position, align, and secure steel members using cranes and lifting equipment.
Bolt and weld steel components on site to achieve accurate and compliant installations.
Carry out on-site welding, burning, drilling, and minor fabrication as required.
Ensure structures are level, plumb, and installed to specification.
Work collaboratively with site supervisors, crane operators, and other trades.
Welding & Fabrication (Site and Workshop)
Fabricate steel components from engineering drawings when required.
Carry out high-quality MIG / TIG / ARC welding to the required standard.
Assist in the workshop with fabrication, welding, and preparation of steelwork during non-site periods.
Use workshop machinery such as saws, drills, grinders, and fabrication tools safely and effectively.
Carry out basic inspections and quality checks on fabricated and installed steelwork.
General Responsibilities
Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication details, and site plans.
Maintain tools, welding equipment, and PPE in good working order.
Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times.
Support DPL's commitment to quality, safety, and professional standards.
Represent the company positively on site and when dealing with clients or principal contractors.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential
Proven experience as a Steel Erector and/or Welder Fabricator.
Ability to weld structural steel confidently (MIG/TIG/ARC depending on task).
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings.
Good understanding of site safety requirements and safe systems of work.
CSCS Card.
Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
Welding qualifications or coded welding experience.
Experience working on large structural steel or regulated projects (e.g. nuclear, industrial).
IPAF, PASMA, or slinging/signalling tickets.
