SEMH Teaching Assistant

The Role



Supporting pupils aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including trauma, attachment difficulties and emotional dysregulation Providing relational safety, emotional consistency and behavioural support Assisting in the delivery of personalised learning approaches and behaviour plans Promoting emotional growth and self-regulation through reflective, therapeutic support Working closely with teachers, SEND and pastoral teams to provide joined-up care Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm -- no shifts, no lone working, no weekends

Is This You?



A qualified counsellor, therapist or trauma-informed professional Or someone from a care, mental health, youth work or social services background ready to transition into education Calm, empathetic and confident in managing emotional and behavioural needs Experienced in trauma-informed practice, de-escalation and restorative approaches A strong communicator and collaborative team player

The School


This inclusive mainstream secondary school is deeply committed to SEMH support. Staff are trained to understand the impact of early adversity and work in partnership with families and external agencies to meet pupils' complex needs. The school environment is calm, consistent and built on relationships -- a place where every young person is given the support they need to move forward.

Working Hours


Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm. Both full-time and part-time applications are welcomed.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
