By processing household waste at our facility, we produce enough waste from energy to power 80,000 homes every year and recycle 70% of items through our Reuse and Recycling Centres. About the role: We have an exciting opportunity for a Semi-Skilled Mechanical Technician to join our Mechanical Maintenance team. In this role, you will support the maintenance team in delivering both reactive and preventative mechanical maintenance, helping to ensure the waste-to-energy plant operates safely, efficiently, and reliably at all times. You will also be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and condition of the plant, buildings, and grounds, contributing to a safe working environment and smooth plant operations. The role operates on a rotating day and night shift pattern and is essential to the continuous operation of the energy centre. Key responsibilities:
Carry out lubrication and routine maintenance of machines and plant, supporting qualified Technicians with servicing activities.
Work on rotating machinery, including cleaning spillages, checking pump oil levels, and greasing bearings.
Perform minor mechanical repairs to serviceable equipment, such as re-jointing pipework, replacing grease nipples, and tightening flanges.
Assist Mechanical Maintenance Technicians in completing maintenance tasks across all operational areas of the energy centre.
Undertake general labouring and housekeeping duties, including cleaning plant areas and grounds using manual and mechanical equipment.
Maintain tools, equipment, lifting gear, and the mechanical maintenance workshop to a high standard, ensuring site cleanliness and safety.
Operate mobile plant, forklift trucks, and overhead/pendant cranes, and provide cover for Operator/Technician duties when required.
Requirements:
Ideally experienced within heavy industry with a strong industrial background; previous mechanical experience is highly advantageous.
Demonstrates a high level of determination and accountability, with the ability to see tasks through to completion.
A team-oriented, considerate, and approachable individual, able to work effectively with colleagues across disciplines.
Strong awareness of health and safety, with the ability to follow and adhere to safe working practices at all times.
Experience using industrial cleaning equipment, operating plant machinery, or driving mobile plant is beneficial.
Experience operating small plant equipment (desirable).
Physically capable of working in confined spaces and at height, and able to work a staggered shift pattern, including weekends and on-call duties, with availability for call-outs outside normal working hours.
