Solid Steps Alternative Education Provision and Purpose of this post:
We are a small, independent provision based in Dulwich and Brixton, dedicated to supporting students with diverse learning needs through a holistic and therapeutic approach. We are seeking a committed professional to work alongside the Head of Provision to deliver high-quality teaching and manage all aspects of the setting. This role involves collaborating closely to create a supportive, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and therapeutically. The successful candidate will play a key role in raising standards of attainment, ensuring the progress and achievement of all pupils, and overseeing the day-to-day running of the provision. Responsibilities also include managing a small staff team, implementing effective therapeutic interventions and wellbeing strategies, and working with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Main Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Provision Self Evaluation
To plan subject delivery both termly and annual learning programs. Leading with the strategic development of the provision, having regard to current and future developments to raise standards for the students and staff.
To manage and direct support staff in their support roles - ensuring students are using SaLT interventions and that staff have correct resources to support the students' learning programs.
To lead on the development and maintenance of Assistive Technologies for students within the provision.
To Manage Fire and Intruder Drills and maintain records
To support development and delivery of programs within the SS cohorts.
To lead and manage after school and holiday clubs, open days and special events
To lead on community partnerships, offsite learning programs, work experience opportunities and progression routes
To be a Safeguarding Lead for the SS Provision ensuring monitoring of the CPOMS system for each cohort. Directing Staff and working in conjunction with the senior leadership team to ensure rigorous safeguarding standards.
Operational
To be responsible for departmental classroom environments, having regard to aspects of Health & Safety To ensure the organisation of ASD low arousal environment and resources within the department.
To be responsible for internal moderation, public examination entries in consultation with other staff members and the head of provision.
To lead the reporting and recording of all safeguarding incidents in line with Solid Steps Safeguarding Policy and Procedures.
To ensure cover staff are allocated and work is set when members of the department are absent.
Contact parents regarding learning, environmental and behavioural needs of the students and record contact with parents in the CPOMs logging system
Safeguarding Compliance
Adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures established by Solid Steps, maintaining vigilance for signs of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
Use CPOMS safeguarding software to report concerns and disclosures.
Report any safeguarding concerns or incidents to the Designated Safeguarding Officers immediately, following established reporting protocols and documentation requirements.
Participate in safeguarding training sessions provided by Solid Steps to enhance awareness and understanding of safeguarding principles and practices.
Maintain and up to date a medical record of students.
Authorise risk assessment for students and on and off-site learning provision and those who are required a high risk assessment.
Pupils and Parents
To create an environment which supports and encourages all pupils with their individualised learning programs.
To track and monitor the academic progress of all SEN pupils attending the provision.
To ensure that all pupils make good progress by using prior attainment data and tracking tools to identify underachieving individual pupils or groups of pupils and where necessary create and implement effective interventions.
Provide one-on-one intervention and small group support to students, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
Support the emotional and social development of students, providing guidance and encouragement.
Maintain good contact with parents e.g., discuss absences.
Teaching and Learning
To plan, promote and support intervention strategies for all pupils and in particular students that will be taking qualifications e.g., personal progress, AoPE.
To plan and deliver an ASDAN and Functional Skills curriculum.
To plan and deliver positive behaviour management plans and safety and risk assessments for students both in the learning environment and offsite learning activities.
Deliver on and offsite individualised learning programs for students with complex needs in the absence of staff or as and when needed.
Organise offsite educational trips.
To complete half term reports and contribute to annual reviews ensuring they are complete within their due dates.
To participate in multidisciplinary meetings with external professionals, as and when necessary.
To work with external vocational providers on assessment/moderation and work placements if applicable to department.
To promote Literacy and Numeracy within the subject consistently.
To ensure that there is an ethos of sharing good practice and resources among the departments.
Promote and support the organisation and planning of subject related activities and events to enhance teaching & learning.
To Lead on offsite learning and sensory experiences and trips - to remove any access barriers for our students and continue to create exceptional learning experiences and opportunities for our students.
Deliver engaging and effective lessons tailored to the individual needs of SEN students.
Maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment, managing behaviour effectively to ensure a safe and productive learning space.
Assist in assessing and recording students' progress, providing feedback to students, parents, and other staff members and collecting feedback from students, parents and other staff members.
Prepare and organise educational materials and resources to support teaching and learning activities.
