We are looking for a caring, patient and committed SEN Support Practitioner to join our early years team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and ensuring every child is included, valued and able to thrive.
The role
As an SEN Support Practitioner, you will work closely with children who require additional support, both on a one to one basis and within small groups. You will support children to access the curriculum, develop communication and independence, and feel safe and confident within the nursery environment.
You will work alongside key persons, the SENCO and parents to implement tailored support strategies that meet each child's individual needs.
Key responsibilities
Provide targeted support to children with SEN or emerging needs
Support children's communication, social interaction and emotional regulation
Implement strategies from support plans, EHCPs and APDR cycles
Observe, assess and record children's progress accurately
Adapt activities and routines to promote inclusion and participation
Support children during transitions and daily routines
Work closely with parents, carers and external professionals
Maintain a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment
Follow safeguarding and confidentiality procedures at all times
Requirements
Experience working with children with SEN in an early years or childcare setting
A good understanding of child development and inclusive practice
Knowledge of SEN support strategies such as visual supports, sensory regulation and communication tools
Ability to work calmly and consistently with children who may present additional challenges
Strong communication and teamwork skills
A caring, patient and reflective approach
Desirable
Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualification
SEN specific training or experience supporting EHCPs
Experience supporting children with speech and language needs, autism or developmental delay
