Job Title: SEN Teacher

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teacher to support and educate students with a range of learning, emotional, physical, and social needs. The ideal candidate will create a nurturing environment, adapt lessons to meet individual needs, and work collaboratively with other professionals to ensure the best outcomes for students.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning & Provision Self Evaluation

To lead on planning, reviewing, monitoring, and evaluating subject delivery and development in the provision having regard to current and future developments to raise standards for the students. To have a strategic impact on the provision through realising leadership status by participating in leadership duties, leading on whole provision initiatives and working within the time demands of the role.
Operational

To be responsible for all internal assessments ensuring that relevant data is collected and passed on for processing and that interventions are planned according to the information gleaned. To ensure cover work is set when members of the department are absent. To be responsible for departmental room, having regard to aspects of Health & Safety To ensure the organisation of resources within the department. To manage support staff within the learning environment to ensure the best learning outcome for the pupils including staff rotas, 1:1 staff, staff breaks and absences. To be responsible for public examination entries in consultation with the deputy head and examinations officer. To report and record all safeguarding incidents in line with Solid Steps Safeguarding Policy and Procedures. Contact parents regarding learning, environmental and behavioural needs of the students and record contact with parents.
Safeguarding Compliance

Adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures established by Solid Steps, maintaining vigilance for signs of abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Use CPOMS safeguarding software to report concerns and disclosures. Report any safeguarding concerns or incidents to the Designated Safeguarding Officers immediately, following established reporting protocols and documentation requirements. Participate in safeguarding training sessions provided by Solid Steps to enhance awareness and understanding of safeguarding principles and practices.
Pupils

To create an environment which supports and encourages all pupils with their individualised learning programs. To track and monitor the academic progress of all SEN pupils in Indigo group. To ensure that all pupils make good progress by using prior attainment data and tracking tools to identify underachieving individual pupils or groups of pupils and where necessary create and implement effective interventions.
Teaching and Learning

To plan, promote and support intervention strategies for Indigo group and in particular students that will be taking qualifications e.g., personal progress, AoPE. To plan and deliver an ASDAN and Functional Skills curriculum. To plan and deliver positive behaviour management plans and safety and risk assessments for students both in the learning environment and offsite learning activities. Deliver on and offsite individualised learning programs for students with complex needs. Organise offsite educational trips. To manage half term reports and contribute to annual reviews ensuring they are complete within their due dates. To participate in multidisciplinary meetings with external professionals, as and when necessary. To plan and teach high quality lessons and lead by example. To work with external vocational providers on assessment/moderation and work placements if applicable to department. To promote Literacy and Numeracy within the subject consistently. To ensure that there is an ethos of sharing good practice and resources among the departments. Promote and support the organisation and planning of subject related activities and events to enhance teaching & learning. To Lead on offsite learning and sensory experiences and trips - to remove any access barriers for our students and continue to create exceptional learning experiences and opportunities for our students.

Curriculum planning Termly Reports Annual Reviews Lesson Planning Staff Supervision Managing the classroom environment Lead Sessions Risk assessments Safety of students when travelling Behaviour management and interventions Communicate with parents Track student attendance Escort and supervise offsite learning Implement speech, SALT and OT therapies as directed by specialist practitioners, ensuring that all staff implement and deliver intervention programmes to maximise learning opportunities for students.
Working Conditions:

Work is usually classroom-based in a mainstream or specialist school setting. May involve supporting students with medical or mobility needs. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team (e.g., psychologists, speech therapists).

Pay: 15.00-25.00 per hour
