Teaching Assistant - 1:1 for a child with a Hearing Impairment

Chesham - Buckinghamshire

Full-time or Part-time

The School:

  • Supply Desk is delighted to collaborate with a well-rated Primary school in Chesham that takes pride in providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for children, enabling them to succeed regardless of the challenges they may face. To support some of its students, the school is seeking an exceptional staff member experienced in working with students with hearing impairments or in a profession with transferrable skills such as care work. To cater to the diverse needs of students, there are specialised learning centers and areas within the school. These include resource rooms, learning support centers, and sensory rooms, providing personalised attention and support to students with special educational needs.
Responsibilities:
  • As a Teaching Assistant for Hearing Impaired students, you will collaborate with the teacher to create and deliver activities. Your holistic approach will involve implementing action plans and strategies to facilitate students\' progress. You will also assist in developing and implementing Individual Education Plans, Risk Assessments, Personal Care, and Therapy Care programs for a designated group/form. Working closely with teachers, support staff, families, and external agencies, you will provide the best possible support for the students. Building therapeutic relationships with students and meeting their individual needs will be essential. As part of your role, you will wear a radio aid to connect with the students effectively.
The Ideal Candidate will have/be:
  • Previous experience working with children with hearing impairments or a strong desire to work with them.
  • Good knowledge of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and a passion for further development in this area.
  • Availability to commit to fixed days on either a full-time or part-time basis.
  • Makaton training desirable
  • NVQ in Childcare and Education or Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools highly desirable
  • Proficient in British Sign Language levels 1-3 would be an advantage
  • Experience in phonics (preferably for pupils fitted with cochlear implants).
  • Experience in fostering independence in young people.
  • Experience in supporting social and emotional development.
  • Possess a clear and valid DBS check on the update service or be willing to obtain one.
