Job Description

We are looking to appoint a SENCO to join the team, for 4-5 days per week, at a Primary School in Poplar, Tower Hamlets. It is a fully inclusive School. The chosen candidate will have an immediate start and be in post until April (this may be extended for the right candidate). The role will not involve any teaching, please see the responsibilities section for more information regarding key tasks.

Responsibilities & tasks:



Lead and manage teaching assistants working with pupils with SEN or a disability. Be responsible for day-to-day operation of the SEND policy and co-ordination of specific provision to support individual pupils with SEND or a disability. Review the education, health and care plan with parents or carers and the pupil. Identify a pupil's SEND. Co-ordinate provision that meets the pupil's needs, and monitor its effectiveness. Secure relevant services for the pupil. Ensure records are maintained and kept up to date. Implement and lead intervention groups for pupils with SEN, and evaluate their effectiveness. Maintain an accurate SEND register and provision map. Provide guidance to colleagues on teaching pupils with SEN or a disability, and advise on the graduated approach to SEND support. Fill out and complete paperwork within set timescales.
Please note that this is illustrative of the general nature and level of responsibility of the role. It is not a comprehensive list of all tasks that the SENCO will carry out. The postholder may be required to do other duties appropriate to the level of the role, as directed by the Headteacher.

Key requirements:



Able to work actively and collaboratively with the other SENCO to create an ethos that promotes equality, celebrates cultural and academic diversity and ensures the inclusion of students of all abilities, including those with Special Educational Needs. A passion for supporting pupils with SEND. Sound knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice. Respect the confidentiality of matters relating to students and other members of staff. The post holder must be aware of and comply with GDPR regulations. Have the confidence, skills and abilities to manage SEND provision at the school. Be able to inspire, challenge and motivate all children to achieve. Ability to use initiative to work flexibly. Hold an NASENCo qualification or have been working as a SENCo since 2008. Good record-keeping skills.
