We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker to transfer their skills into the classroom and join our team in Kendal. The ideal candidate will have relevant qualifications and experience working with adults or children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The role may involve some personal care duties alongside behaviour management and supporting students in their academic and personal development.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide tailored support to students with SEND, ensuring their individual needs are met in the classroom and school environment.
Support students with academic tasks, adapting materials and activities as required to ensure accessibility.
Assist in managing classroom behaviour, using positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques.
Help implement and monitor personalised learning plans for students.
Assist with personal care duties where required, which may include helping with feeding, toileting, and mobility.
Work closely with teachers and other support staff to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Encourage students' independence and social interaction, promoting their emotional and social well-being.
Support students during break times, lunchtime, and other non-teaching periods to ensure their safety and engagement.
Requirements:
A recognised qualification in support work, childcare, education or a related field, or relevant experience in a similar role.
Experience working with students or individuals with SEND and a good understanding of behaviour management techniques.
Confidence in providing personal care, as needed, with respect and dignity.
A patient, compassionate, and proactive approach to working with students or individuals.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
A genuine passion for supporting others and making a difference in their lives.
Willingness to undergo training or professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
Hours:
Monday to Friday, 8.30 AM - 3.30 PM (part-time applications will also be considered).

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
