SEND Teaching Assistant



Summary


Sense Education is passionate about improving the learning experience for children with special educational needs and disabilities. We are currently seeking two Teaching Assistants to join a welcoming specialist school that offers a nurturing and highly personalised approach to education.

The Role


These long-term roles involve working closely with small groups and one-to-one with pupils aged 5-16 who may have Autism, Global Developmental Delay, SEMH needs or physical disabilities. You'll be part of a supportive team of Teaching Assistants, working collaboratively with class teachers and therapists to create a calm, structured and engaging environment.

Responsibilities include:

Supporting pupils during lessons and small group sessions Documenting learning progress and reading milestones Assisting in therapy-based activities such as Music, Art or Speech and Language Supporting soft play and sensory sessions Practising positive behaviour strategies Assisting at break and lunchtimes Helping to maintain a safe, inclusive space where every child can thrive
Some pupils use Makaton to communicate - training can be provided as part of the role.

Who We're Looking For


This role would suit someone who is:

Kind, patient and genuinely passionate about helping young people An excellent team player, happy to collaborate with teachers, therapists and fellow TAs A strong communicator who can build meaningful relationships with pupils and staff Calm under pressure with a positive, solution-focused approach
Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant is welcome but not essential. We also warmly encourage applications from those with backgrounds in care, health, social services or support work, who are looking to transition their skills into the classroom.

The School


This specialist setting provides a rich and varied curriculum tailored to individual needs. It is well-resourced, with a strong emphasis on therapeutic and creative learning. Staff are valued for their dedication and supported to grow in their careers.

Working Hours


Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm. Full-time and part-time applicants welcome.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
