Key Responsibilities
Prepare, monitor, and analyse
revenue and capital budgets
, identifying financial pressures and supporting the Council's
medium-term financial plan
.
Lead the
year-end accounts closedown
, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and accounting standards.
Deliver
professional financial advice
to senior managers and project teams.
Support
business case development
, funding bids, and capital project appraisals.
Identify opportunities to
improve financial systems and processes
.
Collaborate with internal teams and represent the Council in external financial forums.
Essential Skills & Experience
Strong experience in
budget preparation and monitoring
(capital & revenue).
Sound knowledge of
local authority accounting standards
and statutory reporting.
Ability to translate complex financial data for
non-financial stakeholders
.
Proficient in
financial systems
(e5 or similar ERP) and
Microsoft Office
tools.
Excellent communication, analytical, and time-management skills.
Desirable
CCAB-qualified or part-qualified
(CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW).
Familiarity with
local government finance challenges
and external audit processes.
Experience working with
funding bodies, partners, and auditors
