About the Role:

The Specialty Metaline remit includes Aviation, Cyber, Credit, Surety, Mortgage, Treaty Personal Accident, and Crisis Management throughout LMRe on a global basis. This role will provide actuarial pricing support and portfolio analytics to improve business performance, growth and meeting strategic goals within the Specialty meta-line Actuarial team. Core deliverables will involve case pricing, pricing transformation support, portfolio analytics for strategic decision making, and planning initiatives.

You will work closely with the following stakeholders:Underwriting: To help drive enhanced underwriting decision making through account pricing, portfolio deep dives and product development. Reserving: To understand the key drivers of the reserves, be able to communicate this to management and Underwriting and improve pricing/reserving output based on integrated feedback loops. Finance: Be a point of contact and understand business results as a coordinator with our Finance business partners.


About the Department & Team:

The Liberty Mutual Reinsurance (LMRe) Actuarial team evaluate business performance and provide LMRe Underwriting and Management with a clear, risk-based view for making decisions on business strategy and risk mitigation. The department covers aspects of actuarial work including pricing and business planning. The team also collaborate with other functions in the actuarial support of data & analytics, capital management, exposure management and reinsurance purchasing & strategy.

The LMRe Actuarial team consists of roughly 20 Actuaries across the globe. The LMRe Specialty Actuarial team supports underwriters across the globe including in Latin America, Miami, Bermuda, London, Paris, Madrid, Milan, Amsterdam, and Cologne. The role will report to the Pricing Head of Reinsurance Specialty.

Key Responsibilities:

Pricing/RatingIndividual account pricing and performance monitoring. Support the development of underwriter rating tools. This includes model methodology maintenance, updates to model assumptions, R&D, portfolio metrics, amongst other pricing analytics to stay relevant and profitable in the market. Key contact and driver of pricing modernization with rating tools being built onto online platform. Supporting both local and global Group pricing standards, analytics and new product initiatives.


Business PlanningSupport the Pricing Head of Specialty in planning exercises. Execute performance segmentation deep dives to drive the perspective view of each class. The deep dives are used to prospectively inform financial planning, underwriting appetite, remediation and growth strategies. Underwriters will also use the outputs from these deep dives during individual account pricing as a form of portfolio monitoring and benchmarking. Understand the external market landscape to help LMRe's position as a leader in the market in most of the Specialty classes.

Skills and Experience:Qualified Actuary Specialty Reinsurance Industry experience or Specialty Pricing experience preferred. Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Assume ownership and responsibility for delivery, manage timelines and workload effectively, ensure well-reviewed work, respond proactively to feedback, and take responsibility for detailed handovers and personal skill development. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written skills, communicating with a range of internal and external clients of varying experience, expertise and appreciation of actuarial techniques. Strong negotiation, analytical and decision-making skills required. Strong IT skills with practical experience in Excel and SQL and/or desire to learn Python. Utilise relevant methods, data, and tools effectively to solve technical problems, communicate technical concepts effectively to varying audiences, draw meaningful conclusions and make recommendations, enhance actuarial analyses ensuring clear audit trails. Strong desire to learn and continually advance breadth and depth of expertise supporting delivery of array of different projects and workstreams. High degree of self-motivation, maturity and positive outlook. Anticipate and adapt to business and customer needs, aligning work with Liberty Mutual's broader goals and making informed decisions based on organizational understanding and key metrics. Foster cross-functional relationships, engage in inclusive problem-solving, and drive innovative solutions by considering multiple stakeholder perspectives and requirements. Requires educational attainments: 2.1 or better (or equivalent) in a numerate/scientific degree and an A / A in A-Level Maths or equivalent.
