The Role




East Staffordshire Borough Council has an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Technical Officer to lead our Disabled Facilities Grants Team. You will help deliver a wide range of adaptations and housing solutions providing technical advice and guidance to make a positive outcome for residents in the Borough.

The Role




You will have a senior role in the day-to-day operation of the Housing Adaptations Team, leading and supporting team members to provide a high quality, customer centred service.


You will provide technical support and advice on adaptations, surveying, designing and specifying schemes to meet the needs of the client. As well as providing support to other officers, you will have your own workload consisting of more complex works such as extensions and internal alterations. The ability to be creative and solve problems is essential as this skill will be required frequently.


You will work collaboratively and proactively with Housing Adaptations Officers, Occupational Therapists and the Council's approved contractors to ensure that grant applications are determined and administered in a timely manner in line with good practice and statutory requirements.

Key Requirements




You must have extensive knowledge and experience with surveying and construction, within the field of disabled facilities adaptations. You must be able to demonstrate leadership skills with practical experience of working in a challenging and evolving environment whilst maintaining service delivery.


You must be able to demonstrate an awareness of the legislation, regulations, and guidance in relation to the provision of Disabled Facilities Adaptations and practical knowledge and experience of Computer Assisted Design Software.

Skills & Experience




You must be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team. You should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide advice and guidance to people of various ages and disabilities, providing excellent customer care in a courteous and sensitive manner.


The successful applicant should also possess the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
