Senior Ai Engineer

London, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a

Senior AI Engineer

with deep technical expertise and hands-on experience in designing, developing, and deploying advanced AI and machine learning systems at scale. The ideal candidate is both a

strategic thinker and an exceptional implementer

-- someone who can architect robust solutions, optimise model performance, and guide teams in translating complex research into production-grade applications.

?

You will play a central role in developing cutting-edge AI models, improving automation pipelines, and ensuring the scalability, security, and transparency of all AI systems.

?

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and optimise

machine learning and deep learning models for real-world applications (e.g. NLP, computer vision, speech recognition, or generative AI).

Architect, develop, and optimise AI/ML models

(supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning) for the detection of synthetic media (including audio, video, and images) while continuously monitoring model drift, robustness, and transparency, and embedding explainability, fairness, and bias monitoring into all pipelines.

Build and maintain automated pipelines

for data preprocessing, training, testing, and deployment.

Collaborate cross-functionally

with data scientists, software engineers, and product teams to integrate AI solutions into production environments.

Evaluate and implement state-of-the-art AI research

, adapting methods to meet business and technical needs.

Ensure model explainability, fairness, and compliance

with ethical and regulatory standards (e.g. GDPR, AI Act).

Mentor junior engineers

and contribute to developing best practices in AI development, documentation, and deployment.

Contribute to infrastructure design

, including MLOps workflows, model versioning, monitoring, and scaling.

Lead model optimisation efforts

-- including quantisation, pruning, and performance tuning for real-time inference.

Collaborate on strategic decisions

around AI architecture, dataset management, and platform evolution.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Advanced degree (MSc/PhD)

in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related discipline.

8+ years of industry experience

building and deploying AI/ML models at scale. Proven expertise in

Python

,

TensorFlow

,

PyTorch

,

scikit-learn

, and related frameworks. Strong understanding of

MLOps

principles and tools (e.g. MLflow, Kubeflow, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines). Solid experience with

cloud-based environments

(AWS, Azure, GCP) and

data pipeline tools

(Airflow, Spark, etc.). Deep understanding of

AI model lifecycle

, from data acquisition to model monitoring and retraining. Strong command of

software engineering best practices

-- including testing, version control (Git), and documentation. Demonstrated experience in

scalable system design

and

optimisation for production workloads

. Familiarity with

ethical AI principles

,

bias mitigation

, and

responsible data management

.

Desirable Skills

Experience with

large language models (LLMs)

and

generative AI frameworks

(e.g. Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, OpenAI API). Knowledge of

multimodal AI systems

(audio, video, and text integration). Background in

computer vision

or

speech processing

. Contributions to

open-source AI projects

or publications in recognised venues. Experience mentoring or leading AI engineering teams.

What We Offer

Opportunity to work on

high-impact AI products

shaping the future of [industry, e.g. media integrity, cybersecurity, or automation]. Collaborative, inclusive, and research-driven culture. Competitive salary and performance-based bonuses. Continuous learning and professional development support. Flexible working environment and cutting-edge infrastructure.

Security and Eligibility Requirement

Due to the nature of our work with

His Majesty's Government (HMG)

and national security-related clients,

applicants must be British citizens

. Eligibility for this role is strictly limited to British citizens, and this requirement will be a

decisive acceptance or rejection criterion

during the recruitment process.
