The Role



The Senior Analyst leads the operational delivery of analytical activities across thematic and regional priorities, with a particular focus on managing Duty Analysts and ensuring high-quality event and indicator curation, client advice, and digital service outputs. Acting as a senior subject matter expert and operational lead, the Senior Analyst supports the Director Risk Analytics in overseeing Analysts and drives quality, consistency, and innovation in analysis, stakeholder engagement, and product development.

Responsibilities



Team and Operational Leadership

Directly manage Duty Analysts, ensuring effective scheduling, delivery, and professional development. Oversee training and mentoring of Duty Analysts in event collection, indicator validation, and curation standards. Support the Director in coaching and coordinating Analysts, ensuring high performance and consistent analytical standards. Provide day-to-day leadership for the delivery of routine analytical outputs, including security event reports, post-incident response and advice, DETAs, Guardian routing guidance, asset screening assessments and risk assessments.
Analytical Quality and Oversight

Ensure the quality assurance of curated events and indicators across regional and thematic portfolios. Oversee data development for use in regional and thematic analysis, ensuring it is robust, validated, and decision-relevant. Contribute expert input to security assessments and BMP calculations, ensuring outputs remain current and relevant.
Stakeholder Engagement and Representation

Engage companies post-incident to understand impacts, best practice, and armed security measures, feeding directly into Analytics products. Provide post-incident analysis and advice, supporting Maritime Operations Officers with guidance and escalation. Represent the organisation in client meetings, webinars, and industry events, delivering briefings and thought leadership.
Product and Service Development

Support scoping, development, and delivery of new services or regional offerings in collaboration with the Director and commercial teams. Lead or contribute to client briefings, insights, and social media content with authoritative and timely analysis.
Continuous Improvement

Champion high analytical standards across the team, identifying areas for improvement and innovation. Support periodic review and refresh of processes, methodologies, and tools to ensure continuous improvement in analytical delivery.

Qualifications and skills



Essential

Master's and bachelor's degrees in a relevant field such as Criminology, History, International Relations, Political Science, or Security Studies. A minimum of 3 years of experience as an analyst in the maritime risk analytics industry. Demonstrated experience in the line management and leadership of Duty Analysts and/or Analysts. Full professional proficiency or native fluency in written and spoken English. Recognised by industry peers and partners as a subject matter expert in maritime security trends within a regional and/or thematic context, as well as in private maritime security services and best management practices. Proven thought leadership, with a track record of delivering respected written and spoken analysis in reputable forums, publications, or media. Experience representing an organisation such as Ambrey on the global stage at industry conferences, client meetings, and public engagements. Demonstrated leadership and accountability in recruiting and developing junior team members, while maintaining focus as a senior subject matter expert. Strong commercial acumen with the ability to scope, bid, price, and win analytical or consultancy work within designated regions or themes.
Desirable

Familiarity with Ambrey's Guardian and Sentinel platforms or similar maritime security tools. Experience contributing to business development or product innovation in the maritime intelligence or security domain. Practical understanding of best management practices (BMP), security routing guidance, and Dynamic Elevated Threat Areas (DETAs).

Terms and conditions



Salary: Commensurate with experience. Annual Leave: 25 days and local public holidays. Location: Subject to discussions. The role includes an on-call requirement to respond to major events affecting clients within the Senior Analyst's assigned region(s) and/or thematic area(s). The Senior Analyst will also act as a global escalation point in the absence of the Director of Risk Analytics, including during periods of annual leave. Job type: Full-time, permanent.
