Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Application Support Specialist- Finance Systems to lead the support, enhancement,
and optimisation of Law Debenture's finance systems as part of the Application Support function, with primary focus on Sage Intacct and Concur. You will serve as the technical and functional expert for our financial applications within a collaborative team environment, ensuring system reliability, process efficiency, and regulatory compliance whilst supporting business growth and operational excellence.
Working closely with the Application Support team, Finance stakeholders, and Software Engineering team, you will bridge the gap between business requirements and technical implementation, driving continuous improvement of our financial technology capabilities within our Microsoft-centric, Azure-native environment.
Job Role & Responsibilities
System Administration & Support
Act as the primary specialist within the Application Support function for finance system issues across Sage Intacct, Concur, and integrated applications
Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve system issues, escalating complex matters to appropriate teams whilst tracking through to resolution and ensuring minimal business disruption
Collaborate with other Application Support specialists to provide cross-functional support and maintain service continuity
Perform daily validation of system processes, data integrity checks, and reconciliation activities
Manage system configurations, user accounts, security permissions, and access controls in accordance with business policies
Monitor system performance and implement optimisations to enhance user experience and operational efficiency
Provide backup support for other business applications during colleague absence, following established Application Support procedures
Business Analysis & Process Improvement
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather, document, and analyse business requirements for financial system enhancements and solutions
Proactively identify opportunities to enhance financial workflows and system usage, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
Support month-end and year-end financial processes, ensuring system reliability during critical periods
Analyse financial data and processes to recommend system improvements and operational efficiencies.
Project Leadership & Implementation
Lead finance technology projects, offering subject matter expertise and supporting successful delivery within agreed timescales and budgets
Lead the implementation of new features, system upgrades, and customisations, ensuring comprehensive testing, validation, and minimal disruption to business operations
Support integration projects between Sage, Concur, and other business systems, working with the Software Engineering team and existing Workato platform
Participate in vendor selection processes and technology assessments for finance system initiatives.
Training, Documentation & Compliance
Deliver training sessions for new Finance team members and provide ongoing user support across all system functionality
Contribute to Application Support team knowledge base and participate in cross-training initiatives with other application specialists
Create and maintain up-to-date documentation on system processes, procedures, and best practices
Ensure compliance with financial regulations and policies within the finance systems environment
Support internal and external audit requirements, providing system documentation and process evidence as required
Share knowledge and best practices with the Application Support team to enhance overall service delivery
Vendor & Stakeholder Management
Manage relationships with system vendors, coordinating support requests, system updates, and service delivery
Process and manage system access requests in line with policy, ensuring appropriate permissions based on business needs and regulatory requirements
Collaborate with Application Support team members and Head of Application Support to ensure coordinated vendor management and consistent service delivery
Liaise with IT teams, particularly Platform Engineering and ITSM, to ensure system architecture supports business requirements
Provide regular reporting to Finance leadership on system performance, project progress, and improvement initiatives
Participate in Application Support team meetings and contribute to function-wide initiatives and process improvements
General Duties
Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing within the Application Support function, contributing to team effectiveness and service excellence
Support change management initiatives and contribute to business transformation projects
Undertake training and development as appropriate and engage fully in the performance management process
Contribute to the LawDeb culture positively, attend meetings as required, and carry out duties willingly and diligently
Carry out such other tasks as you may be reasonably directed to do by your line manager and the senior management team from time to time
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Finance & Accounting Expertise
Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial operations, and regulatory compliance requirements
Demonstrated experience with general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, expense management, and financial reporting processes
Knowledge of relevant financial regulations and compliance requirements within professional services environments
Technical Systems Experience
Technical system experience of Sage Intacct and Concur, including maintenance, upgrades, configuration, and optimisation (beyond standard user-level experience)
Demonstrated experience of leading system upgrades, integrations, and implementations in finance environments
Strong Microsoft Office 365 suite knowledge, particularly Excel and PowerBI for data analysis and reporting
Understanding of system integration concepts and experience working with middleware platforms
Project Management & Analysis
Demonstrated organisational and project management skills with ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in data analysis and financial reporting
Proven track record of process improvement and business transformation initiatives
Experience managing vendor relationships and coordinating technical support activities
Communication & Leadership
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of the organisation
Proven ability to work effectively as part of a technical support team, with experience in collaborative problem-solving and knowledge sharing
Ability to translate technical concepts into business language and vice versa
Experience in training delivery and user support in technology environments
Strong documentation skills with attention to detail and accuracy
Experience working within ITIL/ITSM frameworks and application support environments
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Professional Services or similar regulated industry experience
Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, or equivalent)
Experience in application support, technical support, or similar customer-facing technology roles
Experience with integration platforms such as Workato or similar middleware solutions
Knowledge of Azure cloud platform and Microsoft E5 suite capabilities
Familiarity with ITSM frameworks and IT service delivery practices
Experience with SQL, database management, and system reporting tools
Understanding of DevOps practices and automated deployment approaches
Previous experience in technology-focused finance roles or finance-focused technology roles
Experience supporting multiple business applications and cross-functional technical teams
