Archaeology Warwickshire, the long-established commercial archaeology and heritage service at Warwickshire County Council, is expanding. With our solid client base and dedicated team, we continue to be at the forefront of archaeological discovery in the Midlands.
We are currently seeking an experienced, motivated, and enthusiastic senior archaeologist to join our team. This is a unique opportunity both to direct new fieldwork projects and to take the lead in writing up some of the most significant archaeological sites in the region.
About the Role
You will play a key role in transforming fieldwork results into engaging, research-rich publications. Working closely with our senior team, you'll help bring major projects through to completion, ensuring they make a lasting contribution to British archaeology. You will also be required to lead in the field and direct teams of archaeologists on complex excavations across multiple periods.
What We're Looking For
Proven experience in directing archaeological projects and producing high-quality reports.
Extensive experience in British archaeology.
A passion for storytelling through archaeology - crafting narratives that bring sites to life.
Excellent written communication skills.
A solid grasp of the wider research context and current debates in the field.
The ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and support junior colleagues.

Essential criteria
Proven experience in writing and publishing archaeological reports to a high standard.
Significant experience of a broad range of British archaeology.
Significant experience of a wide range of archaeological excavation and survey techniques, post excavation technologies and dissemination formats.
Significant experience in directing fieldwork projects.
Experience of publishing archaeological reports.
A degree or post-graduate qualification in archaeology or a related discipline.
Membership (MCIfA) of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists or proactive commitment to join.
A current UK driving licence and unequivocal willingness and competency to drive for business needs.
To be physically fit and able enough to adequately carry out the duties reasonably required of a field archaeologist.
A recognised health and safety qualification or commitment to train for one.
