Job Description

At The London Neurocognitive Clinic, we are committed to empowering individuals on their journey to recovery and independence after personal injury. As a Senior Assistant Psychologist, you will play a vital role in supporting clients who have sustained personal injuries, including brain injuries, helping them access essential services, navigate their recovery journey, and achieve their goals. This role involves developing and coordinating person-centred care plans, advocating for clients, and working closely with families, healthcare professionals, and community resources to provide holistic support, under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.

Key Responsibilities



1. Assist with comprehensive immediate needs assessments (INAs) to identify the client's medical, social, emotional, and financial needs.

2. Assist with developing, implementing, and monitoring personalised care plans, ensuring they align with the client's goals and needs.

3. Assist with regularly reviewing and adjusting care plans to reflect progress and changing circumstances.

4. Serve as a key point of contact for clients and their families, offering guidance, support, and education about recovery, under supervision from a Clinical Psychologist.

5. Advocate for clients to ensure they receive appropriate treatments, therapies, and services.

6. Empower clients to take an active role in their recovery journey.

7. Help to facilitate effective communication and coordination among healthcare providers, rehabilitation specialists, social workers, and other professionals.

8. Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, assessments, and progress.

9. Assist with the preparation of reports.

Working Conditions



This is a hybrid working role with a combination of remote working and travel to client homes and healthcare environments. Regular travel may be required to meet clients and attend meetings or appointments. This role may involve exposure to emotional and challenging situations.

Person specification



1. Qualifications and Training

Essential



Minimum 2.1 degree in Psychology with Graduate Basis for Registration with the BPS
Willingness to complete additional training as required for appropriate performance of the role

Desirable



Further post-graduate training (e.g. MSc) in a relevant area such as Neuropsychology or Clinical Psychology

2. Experience

Essential



Previous experience of working in or volunteering in a clinical setting with people who have Mental Health, Neuropsychology, Physical Health, or Social Care needs

Experience of working with adults and or children and young people with potential neurocognitive needs as well as the wider system such as family and other healthcare professionals

Desirable



Previous experience of working as a Case Manager or Care Co-ordinator that involved looking after the clinical needs of clients and or managing a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals

Previous experience of working as a Band 5 Assistant Psychologist in the NHS

3. Job related Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitudes

Essential



IT literate, including proficiency in use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Knowledge of psychometrics and statistics, including how to interpret psychometric measures

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, especially when writing clinical notes and reports and liaising with other professionals including solicitors

Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate well to service users, family members, and professionals

Ability to act with confidentiality, tact, and discretion

Good organisational skills with a high level of accuracy

Ability to be flexible and to adapt to changing and challenging circumstances, operating calmly and effectively

Ability to manage emotionally challenging material and client information, under supervision

Ability to work independently, managing a variety of competing priorities within agreed timeframes, whilst utilising supervision appropriately within limits of competence

Ability to work supportively and co-operatively as part of a team

Ability to demonstrate leadership skills

Ability to identify risks, such as risk of harm to or from self or others, and vulnerability and use supervision accordingly to develop a risk management plan or to refer/sign post to the appropriate services/organisations

Desirable



Proficiency in use of Qunote

Knowledge of working within a mental health, neuropsychology, psychological therapy and or legal services, including case management

Evidence of leading a team of healthcare professionals

Experience of administering psychometric measures (including cognitive screening measures and measures of mood, anxiety, fatigue, pain and setting of goals)
