Our specialist IP & Tech disputes team is one of the largest in the market, complimented by our highly ranked Media and Commercial Litigation teams - together we are a disputes powerhouse. We have a proven track record of successfully handling a wide range of disputes for a variety of tech-focused clients, from starts-ups to big tech.



Recent examples of our work include:


Defending various tech and gaming platforms in class action proceedings before the Competition Appeals Tribunal. Acting for a global marketing and business service provider in a c.200m IT outsourcing High Court claim arising out of the transition of the entire client's IT estate to a global IT provider but subsequent delays in transformation and the ultimate termination of the agreement on the basis of various material/repudiatory breaches. Acting for a global live sports broadcaster in a c. 10m dispute relating to overcharging and underperformance by a customer service provider under the terms of various service agreements, including comparison of agent activity on different IT platforms. Advising a global IT supplier in relation to a high value public-sector dispute regarding a long-standing services agreement and complex cloud transformation programme. Advising on allegations of material breach, contractual and common law remedies and issues relating to termination/exit. Advising a household name technology company on a dispute with a supplier relating to charges for alleged delay, scope change and payment errors. The matter involved questions regarding applicable law and jurisdiction, interpretation of a contractual change control mechanism, delay analysis and estoppel arguments. Acting for one of the UK's largest insurance companies in respect of three separate technology project failures, including a transformation programme and platform build project, by an international IT supplier.

The role





We are looking for a high-performing Senior Associate with expertise in IT/Technology disputes either gained with a specialist team or a general disputes practice.



As an experienced litigator you will have acted on the resolution of complex technology disputes (both through litigation, arbitration / mediation and distressed project management) for a variety of corporate clients, customers and technology suppliers. Experience to date will include some, or all, of the following:


Advising on complex, high value technology implementation projects, including resolving issues relating to change management, delay, technical requirements and business requirements. Outsourcing disputes. Injunctions, pre-action applications and High Court litigation. Dispute resolution ranging from informal strategic negotiation advice to representing clients in formal resolution including mediation, expert determination and negotiation meetings. Experience in disputes in IT project failures and AI.


With many of our clients having international operations, we are interested in multi-jurisdictional experience. Whilst not essential, experience in IP rights and exploitation / licensing arrangements and software and copyright / AI will be a plus.



Knowledge, skills and experience




6+ years of PQE or equivalent relevant expertise in technology disputes. Delivers legal and commercial solutions, working collaboratively with clients and colleagues to provide an outstanding client experience. Works efficiently and commercially and understands the importance of financial hygiene. Shares their understanding with the team. Takes responsibility for managing and developing strong relationships with clients based on an understanding of their business objectives. Committed to business development to further grow the practice. Identifies and shapes commercial opportunities encouraging others to participate. Adopts a commercial mindset when pricing, resourcing and using technology to manage matters and understands the impact of this on profitability.
