Partner closely with the Lead QA to define and execute a forward-thinking automation strategy aligned with the company's quality vision Take full ownership of the automation roadmap, driving the shift from manual-heavy QA to scalable, integrated automation Embed automation into the CI/CD pipeline using GitHub Actions, ensuring fast, reliable feedback loops Ensure automated tests follow secure coding practices and do not expose sensitive data or system configurations during test execution or CI/CD pipelines. Work hands-on with our cybersecurity systems, understanding architecture, integration points, and opportunities for automation Collaborate with SREs, Staff Engineers, and the Lead QA within the platform team to ensure automation supports platform reliability and scalability Work directly with cross-functional delivery teams--including full-stack developers, product managers, and designers--to embed quality and automation into the development lifecycle Maintain and evolve our Playwright test framework, ensuring it's robust, scalable, and developer-friendly Empower developers to contribute to Playwright tests, especially for feature-level and regression coverage, fostering a culture of shared quality ownership Mentor and train manual QA engineers, helping them transition into automation roles with realistic, measurable goals Continuously assess and improve test coverage, reliability, and performance across the stack

Requirements:

Proven experience leading automation initiatives in complex, high-security environments (ideally in cybersecurity or similar domains) Deep expertise in Playwright and modern test automation frameworks, with strong scripting skills in JavaScript/TypeScript or similar languages Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, especially using GitHub Actions and Azure DevOps Familiarity with cloud-native environments, particularly Microsoft Azure Strong understanding of microservices architecture, API testing, and integration testing strategies Experience working in platform or DevOps-oriented teams, collaborating with engineers across disciplines and seniority levels, including SREs and software developers Strong communication and coaching skills to guide both developers and QA engineers in automation practices A strategic mindset with the ability to balance long-term vision with short-term delivery A collaborative approach to working with cross-functional teams, including product and design

Bonus Points:



Familiarity with security testing practices (e.g., fuzzing, penetration testing, secure coding principles) Experience with performance testing tools and methodologies (e.g., k6, Gatling, JMeter) Knowledge of contract testing (e.g., Pact) or consumer-driven testing approaches Experience with test data management and strategies for complex environments Prior experience in training or mentoring QA teams through a shift-left transformation Contributions to developer experience initiatives, especially around testing and CI/CD Familiarity with feature flagging, canary deployments, or progressive delivery techniques Strong understanding of accessibility testing and inclusive design principles

Manual QA bottlenecks are reduced, and automated test coverage has significantly increased across services Developers are actively contributing to and maintaining Playwright tests as part of their workflow Manual QA engineers are successfully upskilled and contributing to automation, with clear progress against their goals The Playwright framework is owned, maintained, and improved to the highest standard, fully integrated into GitHub Actions, delivering fast feedback, The Playwright integrations is constantly monitored for issues and assessed for optimisation opportunities. Automation is embedded into the development lifecycle across all delivery teams, not treated as a separate phase The platform team sees improved release confidence, faster feedback loops, and fewer production issues Quality is seen as a shared responsibility, and automation is a key enabler of delivery speed and product confidence
