Main Purpose of Role:





ESM Power Ltd is a leading Independent Connections Provider (ICP), Design Consultant, and Private Network Operator, delivering innovative and sustainable solutions across the construction industry.





We specialise in major infrastructure projects including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Solar Parks, Data Centres, and other high-voltage ICP and Balance of Plant (BoP) developments.





As Senior Business Development Manager, the role is pivotal in driving strategic growth and enhancing ESM Power's market presence within the electrical construction sector--covering 11kV, 33kV, 132kV and above, as well as emerging technologies in energy storage and renewable generation.





Key responsibilities include:


Strategic Market Engagement

: Proactively promote ESM Power across the industry to strengthen brand recognition and unlock profitable growth opportunities.

Opportunity Identification

: Source and evaluate new business prospects aligned with the company's long-term strategic goals.

Client Relationship Development

: Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders, aiming to secure negotiated contracts over competitive tenders.

Commercial Leadership

: Define and execute strategic plans to expand our major projects portfolio, focusing on high-value, complex infrastructure developments.

Market Intelligence

: Maintain deep knowledge of industry trends, competitor activity, and client needs to inform business strategy.

Sales Execution

: Lead negotiations and close deals that contribute to sustainable revenue growth and long-term partnerships.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:





Client Engagement & Business Development




Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities within the High Voltage (HV) and Independent Connection Provider (ICP) sectors. Establish and nurture strong relationships with DNOs, IDNOs, developers, consultants, and other key stakeholders. Lead client meetings, deliver compelling presentations, and conduct negotiations to secure major project contracts.



Strategic Sales Leadership




Develop and implement strategic sales plans to achieve revenue and margin targets for high-value projects. Oversee bid preparation, tender submissions, and commercial negotiations for complex contracts. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure proposals are technically robust and commercially competitive.



Market Intelligence & Positioning




Continuously monitor market trends, competitor activity, and regulatory developments to inform strategic decisions. Position ESM Power as a trusted and capable partner for complex HV infrastructure projects.



Internal Collaboration & Project Handover




Work closely with design, engineering, and delivery teams to ensure seamless project handovers. Provide commercial oversight and manage risk throughout the project lifecycle.



Sales Operations & Reporting




Maintain regular updates on sales enquiries and potential contract awards. Keep the customer database current to capture all sales leads and business development activities. Attend industry events and conferences to support business growth and customer engagement. Collaborate with the Business Development Director and Commercial team to identify new opportunities. Review the existing customer base to uncover additional opportunities within related businesses or broader groups. Provide monthly written reports on sales performance and project acceptances. Contribute to the ongoing development of the business plan and target market strategy. Develop and share case studies to showcase the company's experience and capabilities.

Qualifications and Experience:





Essential Qualifications




Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related technical discipline Commercial training or certification (e.g., contract law, negotiation, sales strategy) is highly desirable



Essential Experience




Minimum of 7 years' experience in business development or commercial roles within the High Voltage (HV) / Independent Connection Provider (ICP) sector Proven success in securing and delivering major HV infrastructure projects (33kV and above) In-depth knowledge of DNO/IDNO frameworks, grid connection processes, and ICP regulatory requirements Demonstrated ability to lead complex bids and negotiate high-value contracts Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and strategic planning capabilities Extensive sales experience within the ICP sector, with outstanding communication and presentation skills Well-established network of industry contacts, with the ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with investors, developers, and utilities * Advanced negotiation and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to varied audiences
