We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior bookkeeper to oversee our VAT compliance services and lead a team of bookkeepers. This role is crucial in ensuring financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and exceptional client service. You will also play an active role in supporting clients with Xero queries and reconciling key financial accounts.
Key Responsibilities:VAT Compliance & Advisory
Manage the accurate preparation and timely submission of VAT returns across a range of industry sectors.
Review client VAT returns and offer practical, up-to-date VAT advisory support.
Act as the main point of contact for client queries relating to VAT and bookkeeping.
Bookkeeping Oversight
Oversee and review bookkeeping assignments to ensure they are accurate, complete, and compliant.
Reconcile balance sheet nominals, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
Provide ongoing training and guidance to junior bookkeepers to ensure high standards of work.
Client Training & Support
Deliver hands-on Xero training to clients, ensuring they are confident in using the platform for their business needs.
Offer support and troubleshooting for client queries related to Xero and bookkeeping processes.
Client Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships by providing personalised financial support and solutions.
Serve as a trusted advisor for all VAT and bookkeeping matters.
Team Leadership
Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of bookkeepers, encouraging a collaborative and high-performance culture.
Oversee workloads, set priorities, and support the professional development of team members.
Process Improvement
Continuously evaluate and enhance internal bookkeeping and VAT processes for greater efficiency and accuracy.
Keep up to date with the latest regulatory changes, accounting standards, and best practices, ensuring team compliance and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Requirements:
AAT Level 3 qualified (or equivalent).
Minimum of 3 years' experience in an accountancy practice, with a strong focus on VAT and bookkeeping.
Proven experience using Xero.
Strong ability to reconcile balance sheet nominal accounts accurately.
Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
Ability to commute to our office in Stevenage.
