Job Description

Our story is one of many firsts; we were the first to pioneer the now-established style of English sparkling wine; we were the first to grow the renowned grape varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier in England exclusively for producing sparkling wine; and the estate where our vines were first planted, was first mentioned in the Domesday book of 1086 by its then Anglo-Saxon name "Nyetimbraha".

We are now seeking to expand our Facilities Team at the Winery. Working closely alongside the Estate & Facilities Officer and Senior Winemaker you will be responsible for the day-to-day smooth running of the facilities and contracts at the Winery, ensuring the building and its associated facilities are compliant and in excellent working order. This is a hands-on, practical role that will involve regular on-site work and proactive maintenance. You will be based out of the Winery in Crawley and will travel to other Nyetimber sites including Unit 4 Uckfield to support the wider team with general Estate maintenance on an ad-hoc basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



Building Maintenance



Day to day responsibility for the organisation and execution of all planned preventative maintenance for the Winery, including the production and storage areas and facilities within it. You will mainly be managing contractors and contracts on site, at both the Crawley winery and Unit 4 Uckfield. Working with the Facilities and Estates Officer to ensure that both these sites are compliant and efficient. Supporting the Estate & Facilities Officer to manage and update the digital facilities management programme. Ensuring all assets and their servicing schedules are on the system and carried out on time and to a good standard. You will be supervising the new facilities Technician who will carry out various daily inspection checklists to ensure the building's BMS, Co2 systems and plant room equipment are in satisfactory working order. You will check that this is being carried out correctly and to a good standard. You will be supervising the new facilities Technician who will carry out weekly internal and external building inspections for the Winery and reporting any issues via the maintenance software. You will supervise the facilities technician to ensure that between you, you carry out all basic property maintenance tasks both inside and outside the Winery whenever possible, before looking for a contractor.

Managing Contractors



You will be required to obtain multiple quotes for work to be undertaken by external contractors. These quotes will then be communicated to your line managers for necessary for approval. All paperwork must be sent to E&FO for records. Once these are approved you will be responsible for booking in and overseeing all external contractors and the work they carry out. You will with the E&FO schedule in required servicing and maintenance, providing access and ensuring they have carried out the necessary work to the required standard. You will follow up with all contractors to ensure they have supplied their post-service inspection reports are sent to the E&FO for filing.

Security



You will become a key holder for the Crawley site providing out of hours access to contractors if required (for which you will be paid overtime). You will oversee the security on-site including ensuring the CCTV and intruder alarms are in working order. Reporting any breaches of security. You will be a contact person via telephone for any out of hours alarm activation at the Winery.

Health & Safety



You will, with the help of the new winery facilities technician, carry out all statutory health and safety compliance checks including fire alarm testing, ladder checks, fire escape and building, roof inspections etc. You will ensure that all external contractors have gone through the internal approval process and supplied their RAMs before working on-site. Ensure all relevant health and safety procedures are followed from a Facilities/Building Management perspective. Report any unsafe behaviour or breaches of health and safety to your line manager and encourage the Crawley Facilities technician to do so.

General



You will meet with the Estate & Facilities Officer on a weekly basis to report on all activities that have taken place during the week. You will support the Senior Winemaker and Estate & Facilities Officer with all Winery related tasks. Ensure the Winery is presentable and maintained to the highest standards internally and externally. You will contribute to a positive culture within the team as well as throughout the business. To ensure that there are continuous improvements made to the building's efficiency, you will ensure longevity of the machinery and improve utility consumption, through effective management of all plant and machinery.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:



Previous building maintenance experience. Experience of statutory health and safety compliance. Experience of working within an industrial or production style environment. Experience of using hand power tools and ground machinery. The ability to supervise another member of staff. Ability to work unsupervised and in isolation to deliver towards team objectives Drive to ensure a secure and safe working environment at all times. High levels of resourcefulness and the ability to solve most problems using own initiative, but sufficient experience to seek advice when appropriate. Ability to work under pressure and cope with conflicting priorities Enthusiastic and committed approach with a track record of building strong, trusted relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels. Outstanding organisational planning and reporting skills. Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently. Demonstratable knowledge of maintenance operations. Confident using emails, technology and computers for reporting, filing and property maintenance purposes. A full, clean driving licence with appropriate insurance for travel between sites is essential. IOSH safety qualifications is desirable.
