This role plays a key part in shaping a safe, sustainable and high-performing campus for Cardiff Met. As

Senior Building Surveyor

, you'll help drive the condition, compliance, and quality of the University's built estate--ensuring that student experience, energy efficiency, and statutory responsibilities are at the heart of every decision. Our approach is multi-award winning; focusing on making the most of what we have, and we are looking to expand the capacity and capability of our in-house team.

You'll lead the way by:



Delivering and validating building condition surveys across a large, multi-site estate. Developing and prioritising rolling programmes of planned maintenance and remedial works. Designing and managing minor refurbishments to improve safety, comfort, and sustainability. Commissioning and validating surveys and works undertaken by our supply chain Providing a reactive response to assess and address estate issues impacting our operations. Acting as Principal Designer under CDM and ensuring works meet all relevant regulations. Ensuring compliance, accessibility, and building performance improvements are considered in all you do. Collaborating with academic, professional and contractor teams to support Strategy 2030 and net zero goals.

What you'll bring




You'll bring a technical depth and a forward-thinking mindset to building pathology, with the ability to influence and lead programmes of work across a diverse University environment. An expert in condition and compliance, you'll combine data-driven insights with hands-on experience to improve building condition, performance and user satisfaction.

A degree in Building Surveying or a related discipline and MRICS chartered status. Significant experience in delivering and managing building condition surveys and planned works. Strong knowledge of CDM regulations, statutory compliance, and project delivery. Experience in remedial and minor projects design, specification, procurement and contractor management. Understanding of sustainable materials, retrofit solutions and circular economy principles. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical audiences. A demonstrable personal commitment to addressing climate change Ideally, experience in a higher education or complex estates environment.
