Remuneration & Benefits:
75,000 to 80,000 per annum, depending on experience

About the role
We're looking for a skilled Building Surveyor to join our growing team. You'll conduct property inspections, write reports, and advise clients on repairs, maintenance, and property-related issues. You'll work on homes and other buildings, helping people make good decisions about their properties.
This is a full-time role based in Hertford (SG14), offering flexible working arrangements.
The ideal candidate will take over the delivery of a significant area of our business, with autonomy to lead the surveying function and develop a small team under their leadership. This is a pivotal hire for our future.
Core responsibilities, but not limited to:
Conduct Homebuyers property inspections, surveys, and reports (Level 2, Level 3)
Offer professional guidance on building defects, potential issues, and appropriate repair or maintenance solutions
Assist in the preparation of accurate cost estimates and project specifications for property renovations and improvements.
Conduct inspections and prepare planned maintenance reports, as well as capital expenditure plans.
Undertake inspections and prepare schedules of condition
Accept appointments under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 and resolve disputes between owners or their appointed surveyors
Inspect and prepare schedules of dilapidations (mainly acting on behalf of Landlords) and agree on the settlement of claims
Prepare comprehensive survey reports, providing expert advice on the condition, value, and maintenance of properties
Oversee the fulfilment of all building surveying workstreams and contribute to future hiring as the team grows
Take a lead role in delivering both residential and commercial surveys, as well as project management and contract administration assignments
A bit about you
Proven experience as a Building Surveyor
Chartered status or working towards it with a relevant professional body (RICS, MRICS, etc.)
Strong knowledge of building construction, property laws, and regulations
Excellent report-writing skills with a keen eye for detail
Effective communication and client-facing skills
A valid UK driving license
Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
A positive attitude and focus on being a great team member
Extra credit
Experience with commercial property surveying
Familiarity with project management software and tools
Knowledge of sustainability practices in building surveying
Interest in historic and listed buildings
Experience in mentoring or training junior surveyors
