Job summary




We are recruiting for a

Senior Business Services Manager - Improvement and Development

to lead national initiatives that enhance the quality and efficiently of our vital work with children, families and the courts.





Part of the Business Services Management team, led by the Head of Business and Supporting Families Services. You will lead talented, motivated teams to provide effective, timely and engaging services that ensure we provide outstanding, consistent services to the children and families who we hold at the heart of everything we do.



The office base is flexible for this role, however there is an expectation of frequent travel to offices across the country as required in order to carry out your duties.

As the national lead for Business Services Improvement and Development, you will:

Oversee the enhancement and advancement of business services, implementing best practices and fostering innovation. Lead on the design and implementation of national change processes for business services. Develop and implement quality assurance procedures and performance frameworks. Play a key role in strategic planning, performance analysis, and budget management. Ensure the wellbeing, morale, and development of your workforce, promoting resilience and learning opportunities. Uphold Cafcass's values, leadership standards, and commitment to diversity, equality, and safeguarding.

Person specification




Educated to degree level in relevant discipline or equivalent professional qualification


Extensive relevant experience in working collaboratively as part of a management

team focused on the interests of the organisation, at a level appropriate for success

in the position.


Experience of management in business services, within a medium to large, ideally

national, organisation.


Demonstrable experience of managing staff, services and budgets at a managerial

level across a wide range of functions.


A track record of identifying and implementing business improvements.


Experience of implementing change and managing change processes whilst

minimising disruption to services.


Leading the development, delivery and improvement of key processes including

business planning and self-assessment.


Worked with a range of teams and can demonstrate external networks and

partnerships that have enhanced business systems.


Experience of managing a wide range of staff, including those at supervisor/manager

level, to achieve demanding targets.


A good understanding and track record of performance management including target

setting/monitoring and managing underperformance.


Experience in staff development using a range of tools/techniques.


Experience of budget setting and managing within a budget.


Can demonstrate the effective use of resources in a previous role or project.


Can use and interpret data/management information to guide the effective use of

resources.


An approachable manager with excellent interpersonal skills, able to communicate

effectively both verbally and in writing to a wide range of audiences.


A collaborative team worker who can build positive relationships and work effectively

across boundaries and achieve results through others.


An ability to operate effectively and sensitively and to develop relationships that

command respect, trust and confidence.


Ability to be analytical, and to find creative solutions.


A proactive self-starter able to manage multiple priorities.


Personal conduct, integrity and credibility that commands the confidence of managers

and staff at all levels, external partners and stakeholders.
