As a Senior Care Assistant, you will be responsible for
leading and coordinating the shift
, ensuring high standards of care and compliance. You will support both residents and staff by overseeing daily care routines, administering medication, maintaining accurate documentation, and acting as a first point of contact for healthcare professionals, families, and emergencies.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the care team
on shift, ensuring tasks are completed to high standards and in a timely manner
Administer medication safely and accurately
in line with policy and MAR charts
Complete documentation and care notes
to a high standard using person-centred approaches
Respond and
liaise with paramedics, district nurses, and GPs
professionally and confidently
Attend and represent the home during
GP rounds, hospital admissions, or reviews
Promptly escalate health or safeguarding concerns to management
Carry out and
document observations
(e.g., fluids, repositioning, nutrition, pressure care)
Support new staff, provide guidance to care assistants, and promote team cohesion
Participate in audits, care plan reviews, handovers, and supervision meetings
Follow and uphold all infection control, safeguarding, fire safety, and health & safety procedures
Communicate effectively with residents, families, and professionals
Deliver
compassionate personal care
when needed, including hoisting, mobility support, and end-of-life care
Essential Requirements:
Minimum 1 year's experience as a Senior Carer
or in a team-leading role within a residential or nursing home
Medication training and competency certificate
(essential)
Proven ability to
manage and lead a shift
confidently
Strong ability to
handle emergency situations
calmly and effectively (e.g. paramedic arrivals, GP requests)
Excellent
documentation skills
- must be able to write clearly, professionally, and in line with regulatory standards
Knowledge of
CQC expectations
, infection control, safeguarding, and confidentiality policies
Ability to mentor junior staff and support high-quality care delivery
Right to work in the UK
