Job Description

At Garforth care homes we are looking for a senior care assistant/ team leader to complement our longstanding and established team. We are looking for an experienced member of staff to lead our staff team and assist with compliance within the home, such as care planning and medication practices.

There are two care homes side by side, The Hollies (Specialist dementia service) and St Armands Court, where residents have more general care needs.

The role will involving either working 7am-2.30pm or 2.30pm-10.00pm

We require a SCA to work over both homes.

The posts will involve working weekends as part of a roster.

Main Responsibilites



To act as a role model for other care staff in respect of day to day activities with particular emphasis on attaining qualifications in Health and Social Care.

To educate and enable other care staff to practice skills under direct supervision until competent.

To work at all times in ways which demonstrate an active understanding of the principles of the job as described above, and with appropriate guidance from senior staff.

Answer Nurse call system promptly, giving assistance as required. Answer the door and telephone appropriately. Respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly.

To facilitate in the admission of new residents.

To support the management team to carry out duties in relation to their responsibilities for residents.

To assist in the on-going assessment of residents, reporting any changes to the person in charge.

To promote awareness and compliance with the operational policies and procedures of the Home.

To carry out all duties in a safe manner having regard to the Health and Safety of self, colleagues, residents and visitors to the Home.

Communication and Key Relationships



To work to promote a high level of effective communication between the care and management teams

To be helpful and courteous to residents and visitors at all times

To report all comments, compliments and complaints to the Manager.

Quality



To build up good relationships with residents under his/her direct care and to provide them with daily care to help them maintain and improve, where possible, their independence, individuality and mobility.

Dispense medication, and ensure correct recording of all relevant information relating to medication (after satisfactory completion of the Safe Handling of Medicines course).

Complete, observe & review care planning needs for residents, and complete written daily records as instructed and in line with the Company's policies and procedures.

To complete assessment documentation as required by the home.

Ensure all holistic assessments are carried out when residents are admitted to the Home/Centre e.g. covering nutritional and incontinence issues, risk assessment etc.

To maintain accurate and legible records of care provided. Complete other assessment documentation.

To assist residents to carry out their activities of daily living e.g. washing, dressing, eating and bathing.

Positively promote the home to maximise admissions.

Line Management



Support Care Assistants that may work under your instruction.

Supervise and instruct junior and new Staff Members in all aspects of their work in the Home, giving help and guidance where appropriate and assisting in keeping records up to date.

Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.

The applicant must have a Level 3 Qualification in care or a willingness to work towards (with a level 2 as a minimum). Free training will be provided and staff will have the option to complete an apprenticeship to further their qualifications, following a successful probationary period.

Pay: 13.46 per hour

Expected hours: 22.5 - 37.5 per week
