Key responsibilities and accountabilities
Organisation-Wide: -
To work as part of an efficient team and to contribute to the smooth running of the Care Home
To continue professional development through attending and contributing to internal/external training and development, meetings and supervisions
To comply with Rosmead Healthcare Health & Safety policy and procedures at all times
To represent Rosmead Healthcare in a professional and positive manner at all times and in all communications with residents, visitors and staff
To maintain confidentiality regarding all issues and information relating to residents and the Home
Functional: -
Ensure the highest standards of care are maintained by supporting/assisting residents with all personal care needs and activities of daily living
Assist residents who have limited mobility, or physical/learning difficulties, making the best use of mobility aids and personal equipment provided
To make and change beds and tidy rooms and maintain residents clothing
To undertake various domestic tasks to assist in the smooth running of the Care Home
To support the training and supervision of junior and new staff members in all aspects of their work in the Care Home under the supervision of senior staff members
Closely monitor residents who may be confused and/or who have behaviours that may challenge
Assist in the delivery of care for residents who are terminally ill or who have a progressive illness
Assist in social activities by interacting with residents and helping them continue hobbies and activities in the Care Home to enhance quality of life
To act as a Care Assistant to a number of residents and be responsible for the care of those person's rooms, clothing and emotional needs etc.
To contribute to the protection of vulnerable adults from abuse
To assist at mealtimes and assist with feeding when a resident may require help
To answer assistance calls, telephones, take and pass on accurate messages to the Line Manager
Carry out regular checks on residents to ensure their health, safety and well-being
Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained
To provide and or update care plans for new and existing residents in the home.
Record and report patient observations in care plans to ensure maintenance of accurate and up to date records
Work within Care Home policies procedures to ensure maintenance of safe working practices for residents and other colleagues
Follow security procedure in order to ensure the safety of residents, visitors, belongings' and the property as a whole
Competencies
Leadership: -
Assist in the induction and training of new and more junior members of staff
Communication: -
To professionally represent Eastern Healthcare in all dealing with individuals and external contacts
Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to accurately complete care plans and maintain up to date information
To maintain personal contact with clients through individual and group discussion/interaction under direct or indirect supervision from qualified staff
Co-operate and maintain good working relationships with other colleagues that are attending and treating clients to maximise resident care
Maintain in good relationships and an empathetic and professional approach to residents, and relatives
Experience of communicating effectively with residents, partners, stakeholders and other relevant bodies
Knowledge/Qualifications
Two years experience of working in a care setting vulnerable people
Hold an NVQ 2 in Health and Social Care. Willing to undertake NVQ Level 3 in Care
Ability to show empathy, understanding and experience of the needs of the resident group
Well developed time management skills with the ability to work under pressure
Ability to make balanced, clear and timely decisions
Take a pro-active approach to consulting and involving others in decision making process as appropriate
Knowledge of food hygiene preparation or a willingness to learn
Undertake all mandatory training
Undertake training in specialist subjects
Understanding of and clear commitment to equal opportunities
