Job Title: Senior Care Assistant

Responsible to: Home Manager/Deputy Manager

Main Purpose of Job: To assist management in the smooth running of the Home, ensuring a high quality of service and care.

To assist with the individual care of residents and ensure that staff contribute to the efficient running of the Home, and creation of quality care environment and atmosphere.

Duties:

a) To assist principally in the continuity of care for Residents.

b) To assist Residents who require help with personal hygiene, toileting, bathing, dressing, undressing, etc.

c) To assist Residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities including incontinence, to assist in the use of care aids and equipment.

d) To care for Residents who are temporarily sick or needing, for example minor dressings, bed nursing etc.

e) To assist with palliative care.

f) To answer call bells, assess the situation and assist with Residents seeking help.

g) In cases of emergency, to summon the manager on duty/call, and or emergency services and follow the companies fire evacuation plan.

h) To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of Residents through conversations, sharing activities such as reading, writing, hobbies, recreations or escorting out where time and constraints allow.

I) To make and change beds, tidy rooms, carry out light cleaning duties, empty commodes.

j) To set up tables and trays, serve meals, assist residents to eat as necessary. Prepare light meals, tidy and clear dining room.

k) To be responsible for the dispensing and ordering of Residents medication as appropriate.

l) To undertake duties as key worker.

m) To take responsibility for the completion of Care Plans, Risk Assessment and Reviews. To read and write reports as appropriate.

n) To admit new residents, ensuring that the necessary documentation is complete.

o) In the absence of management to assume responsibility in the event of the death of a resident. To always inform the Home Manager of the death of a resident. Where the death is unexpected and the Manager is not on duty, the Home Manager must be informed and will attend.

p) To assist with professionals visiting the Home, ie, Doctors, District Nurse, etc, ensuring a professional approach at all times and that the relevant documentation is complete after each visit.

q) To ensure that all procedures within the Home are carried out in accordance with Quality assurance.

r) To ensure that Health & Safety, Food Hygiene and C.O.S.H.H. regulations are adhered to.

s) To undertake training as required.

t) To work 'hands on' in the Home to facilitate the training of new and junior staff, and to supervise the quality of care practices reporting to management on progress.

u) To attend staff meetings.

v) To be available for 'on calls' at night as per rota, in the event of an emergency in the home or to give advice and guidance as necessary.

w) To seek advice and guidance from senior management on any matters requiring clarification.

x) To communicate to senior management any information deemed necessary to ensure the efficient operation of the Home.

y) To continuously strive for self motivation and development.

Job Types: Full-time, Contract, Permanent

Pay: 12.63 per hour

Expected hours: 44 per week

Experience:

providing care: 3 years (preferred) supervisory: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:

NVQ Level 2/3 Health & Social Care (preferred)
