Responsibilities
To assume responsibility for the building, the quality of care offered to the residents and dealing appropriately with emergencies in the absence of the home managers
To assist the managers in maintaining the quality of continuity of care to residents through the provision of supervision, support and guidance to care assistants
To inform managers of any problems or concerns arising with regard to residents and staff
To assist in the implementation of agreed policies and procedures and ensure compliance
Key tasks
To support and encourage residents to live independently as possible and to provide practical help to those requiring assistance or supervision in their daily living tasks.
To take a lead role in the delivery of care, supervision and directing carers to ensure a high quality of service is provided
To ensure good oral and written information is exchanged relating to residents. This is to include maintaining individual records and ensuring handovers of such information is passed on to the next shift on duty
Following appropriate training to administer medication within the agreed procedure and report any anomalies to the home manager
To be aware of all policies related to the administration of medicines and what to do in the event of any errors
To take appropriate action in an emergency situation, seeking advise , further assistance from the home manager where needed
To be flexible and able to cover extra shifts in the event another senior staff member fails to turn in for a shift following their own
In the event of a death of a resident to have the knowledge and skills to appropriately deal with all aspects of the death including liaising with professionals and family members
To assume responsibility for the building, its furnishings and fittings and to document in the maintenance book any work needed to be carried out by the handyman
Any maintenance on a larger scale should still be documented and reported to the home manager for further investigation
At the request of the manager, to provide basic on the job training for new recruits. All new recruits will be shadowed for the duration of a t least 1 week until the seniors are completely happy with their job performance.
To ensure that any information obtained during the course of duty remains confidential
To contribute to the Health & Safety of the environment by observing safe working practices and procedures
To participate in training activities offered and to be involved in identifying and planning the personal needs of self and others
The senior is responsible in the absence of the home managers to alter the rota as needed or requested by staff members.
The senior is responsible for ensuring all duties are carried out to the full and any member of staff caught sleeping on duty will be reported immediately.
