Job summary




We are recruiting for three Senior Case Officers to join our Complaints about Schools (CAS) Team.


As a Senior Case Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring that complaints received by Ofsted about schools are risk assessed and investigated effectively, in line with policy and legislative powers. Your work will help determine whether inspection action is required where there is evidence of wider concerns.


You will collaborate closely with regional colleagues and CAS senior managers to share insights, best practice, and ensure consistency in decision-making. The role also involves working within agreed service levels and key performance indicators, while adhering to Ofsted's safeguarding policy. This is a leadership role with line management responsibilities for a number of staff, offering the opportunity to support and develop others while contributing to the continuous improvement of our complaints handling processes.

Experience of handling work and making appropriate decisions within business policy and wider legislative frameworks. Experience of developing robust recommendations for senior leaders based on effectively identifying, collating, analysing and risk assessing diverse data and information sources including discussion with a variety of interested parties. Experience of providing expert support and guidance for colleagues of across a range of levels including senior leaders. Strong line management and case management skills. Sound knowledge of safeguarding and child protection processes and procedures.

This vacancy is using Success Profiles , and will assess your Behaviours, Experience and Technical skills.

Application and Shortlisting:




The selection panel will assess your application based on your evidence you have provided against the essential criteria as set out in the person specification.



You will also be asked to provide information within the "Employer/Activity History" section of the application form. This information is equivalent to the information you would provide on a CV setting out your career history (this may be used in the sifting process).


In the event that we receive a high volume of applications, an initial sift will be conducted using the following lead criterion:

Sound knowledge of safeguarding and child protection processes and procedures

Applicants who meet this criterion will be invited to progress to the next stage of the selection process. If necessary, a further full sift will be undertaken, assessing all applications against the complete set of essential criteria outlined in the person specification.

Assessment and Interviews




Candidates who pass the benchmark at the shortlisting stage will be invited to an assessment and interview where you will be assessed against a combination of the the Civil Service behaviours and the technical/experience skills set out in section 3 of the job specification.
