Senior Residential Support Worker

37.5k Inclusive of sleep-ins (65 per sleep in, average 10 sleep in per month

We are currently Recruiting for a Senior Residential Support Worker; this is to work in a home with two children and young people needing behavioural and emotional support.

Working as a Children's Home Senior Support Worker, you must be willing to go above and beyond for the children and young people, ensuring that they have an experience of childhood that they can reflect upon and carry with them into adulthood. You will need to have experience at working at senior level or extensive experience within a children's residential support setting.

The candidate will hold at minimum

Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Children & Young People.

Main duties:

- Contributing to the young person's care plans and risk assessments, their review and implementation.

- Forming effective relationships with young people, their families (if appropriate) and external agencies.
- Ensuring the home is kept clean and in a tidy condition, adhering to the cleaning rota system, encouraging the young people to participate as appropriate.
- Ensuring that good quality records are maintained as required with supervision and advice from shift and Managers.
- Maintaining and promoting residential care work to high levels of professionalism expected by Ofsted.
- Contributing to the educational and social development of each young person and assisting in the implementation of Individual Education Programs.
- Meeting the emotional and physical needs of our young people and maximising opportunities for their development.
- Providing support to the deputy/manager of the home whilst on shift and performing senior duties as directed.

To be successful you must:

- Have proven experience working within challenging behaviour.

- Experience and ability to work flexible shifts

- have good knowledge of dealing with challenging behaviours

- have good knowledge of OFSTED, quality assurance and relevant legislation

- hold at minimum Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Children & Young People

- Hold a full UK driving license and valid business insurance (Preferred)

Senior Support Worker

Purpose

To provide high quality care to the children and young people who are placed with Bright Futures North West Limited.

Act as a leader, role model and coordinator of shifts

To understand and contribute to the children and young people's daily plans ensuring that their basic needs are met

To support the staff team to make decisions that are always in the best interests of the children and young people and the organisation

To provide direction and challenge poor practice

To be actively monitoring and providing feedback to individuals.

To be alert to signs of distress, neglect, or abuse, ensuring that the children and young people are monitored and protected.

To know, understand and role model Bright Futures cultural and behavioural expectations.

Key Activities

To understand and apply safeguarding practices and processes, maintaining vigilance when supervising children and young people in line with risk assessments to ensure that significant behaviours are noted, recorded and responded to, taking the lead where appropriate.

To communicate effectively with the staff team about regulatory requirements to support the homes delivery of high-quality care.

To demonstrate the ability to accurately communicate the children and young people's needs as identified in their plans to other professionals

To be accountable for the monitoring of all paperwork, actively monitoring quality and providing frequent feedback to staff in this regard.

To utilise the companies whistle blowing policy to ensure that poor practice and dishonesty is dealt with appropriately

Carry out tasks and maintain all relevant records pertaining to fire safety, health & safety and other records as directed by the line manager

To implement all learning regarding training on a daily basis, providing guidance to colleagues and challenging poor practice of others

Provide direction to colleagues to ensure all the basic physical needs of the children and young people are met daily and that accurate records of children and young people are kept in line with the organisational systems

Be mindful of race, culture, language, and religion, to ensure that every child/young person is treated fairly and as an individual entitled to respect and dignity.

Be sensitive to the needs of individual children and young people and provide support and comfort to young people under stress, providing direction in this regard

Develop and implement daily shift planners and weekly planners for children and young people to ensure the smooth running of shifts.

To take the lead and work with internal and external services and professionals to ensure continuity of care for children and young people, maintaining professional relationships with young people, individuals with parent responsibility, social workers, teaching staff and other professionals involved in the care of children and young people; attending meetings as required.

Be accountable to the homes petty cash and ensure financial systems and processes are followed correctly, providing direction to colleagues and challenging poor practice in this regard.

To carry out tasks and maintain all relevant records pertaining to Health & Safety and other records as directed by your line manager providing direction to colleagues in this regard

Where requested carry out quality assurance process, inclusive of Regulation 45 reports and responding to Regulation 44 reports.

To actively monitor working practices of the home and provide feedback to staff regarding quality and standards.

With support from your line manager use the homes rota to manage your training commitments and annual leave responsibilities effectively, ensuring that you are proactive and use initiative to ensure that all working hours are used effectively. Role modelling flexibility where practicably possible to support the home in covering rotas.

To lead on the development and implementation of daily shift planners and weekly planners for children and young people to ensuring that they are in place and being followed to help with the smooth running of shifts

Act as a leader amongst the staff team, supporting colleagues and being prepared to receive support as necessary

To communicate positively and constructively about the children and young people, colleagues, and organisation at all times

To facilitate effective handovers, actively monitoring and providing feedback to staff and line manager about the quality of handovers.

Make use of regular supervisions and consistently demonstrate the skills to engage in personal reflection about the impact of the working on one's own feelings, one's colleagues and about one's own strengths and weaknesses.

Utilise written communication effectively to share significant information with colleagues, line managers and other relevant professionals in a timely fashion.

To act with initiative, accountability, and responsibility at all times to assist with functioning of the team, providing leadership, direction and guidance on shift.

To recognise one's own strengths and weaknesses, and those of colleague to contribute effectively to the function of the team, acting as a lead in this regard to manage shifts effectively

To be aware of policies and procedures and act according to them.
