The Role
As a Senior Civil Engineer / Principal Civil Engineer, you will be a vital part of our growing Manchester infrastructure team, delivering civil engineering designs and project leadership across a broad portfolio of clients and sectors.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead civil engineering designs for infrastructure projects including highways, drainage, earthworks, and site development.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including transport planners, architects, and structural engineers.
  • Manage project inputs including budget, programme, technical delivery, and quality assurance.
  • Support and mentor junior team members through design reviews, technical guidance, and chartership mentoring.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and long-term relationships.
  • Assist with fee proposals, bid writing, and project resourcing as required.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
  • BEng/BSc or MEng in Civil Engineering.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer through ICE (or actively working towards).
  • 6+ years' experience in civil infrastructure engineering, ideally in highways, drainage, or development infrastructure.
  • Strong technical design background with proficiency in Civil 3D, MicroDrainage or similar.
  • Proven ability to lead tasks, manage small teams, and deliver high-quality technical outputs.
  • Clear communication skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
Desirable:
  • Experience working with local authorities, housing developers, or contractors.
  • Knowledge of S278/S38, SuDS, and drainage strategies for planning.
  • Understanding of NEC contract administration and construction supervision.
  • Experience in mentoring or supervising junior engineers and graduates.
Work Environment & Expectations
  • Manchester office - flexible hybrid working available (minimum 2-3 days office presence expected).
  • Occasional travel to site and client meetings required.
  • Opportunities to take on line management or technical lead roles depending on experience and interest.
