GE Grid Solutions, Grid Systems Integration (GSI) are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to work on our High Voltage AC and DC substation tenders (bids/opportunities). The candidate will be based in our Stafford office and will manage all aspects of the Civil Works on tenders, including but not limited to: developing the civil design, technical commentary and responses, costing, programme, risk assessment, liaising with design consultants and civil contractors, supporting the sourcing team.

The Role
We are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer with a good knowledge of the tendering bid process and who has previously worked in the high voltage electricity industry.
The candidate will lead the civil works alongside a diverse team of designers, engineers, and work with the bid managers in preparing bids for High Voltage AC & DC substations and Offshore windfarms, battery energy storage and green hydrogen production opportunities to support the Green Energy Transition.
Design:
Lead, control and coordinate civil work design for High Voltage AC & DC substations to optimise construction costs while satisfying the Employers Requirements.
Interfaces Management:
Develop tenders with suppliers (designers, contractors, and Design & Build contractors) working with the GE tendering team to ensure input information is available as required
Drawing Management:
Prepare the provisional drawing list and manage its follow-up in liaison with GE tendering team and sub-contractors.
Ensure proper document control in dispatching the drawings to/from various parties during the tendering phase.
Internal Estimate:
Produce take-offs and cost estimates using the GE civil works estimating tools.
Assist the GE Sourcing team to secure a civil works sub-contractor.
Purchasing:
Assist the Tendering in selection, negotiation and contracting with civil works sub-contractors in accordance with GE sourcing process.
Risk and Opportunities:
Identify and manage all civil work design deviations, assumption from the Employers Requirements.
Drive civil works value engineering through the tendering phase.
Scheduling:
Working with the GE planner and the rest of the GE team develop tender stage design and construction programmes, in agreement with the sub-contractors.
Health and Safety
Demonstrate commitment to safety through participation in formal and informal Hazard identification and mitigation discussions in accordance with GE's processes
Participate in the resolution of safety issues identified during the tendering phase.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Civil Engineering/Architectural degree or equivalent
High Voltage AC & DC substations design and/or construction civil works experience,
Knowledge of civil works interfaces between differing trades (structural/architect., HVAC, Lighting, Fire Protection...)
Experience of coordinating civil works designs from internal GE civil works staff and external sub-contractors
Proven experience in the Construction of capital projects (Civil and building etc.) and preferably in the High Voltage AC & DC substations industry. Desirable: experience in windfarm and or HVDC designs.
AutoCAD and BIM knowledge is essential
Fluent oral and written English.
Can analyse and resolve problems.
Can document, plan, and perform to very tight delivery schedules.
