Your role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a technically skilled and motivated scientist to join our Climate Change Team. You will contribute to the development of new climate change products, enhance our existing tools, and apply cutting-edge science to help our clients understand and manage flood risk.
Day to day, you will analyse data, design and implement statistical or hydrological methods, and work closely with other teams across JBA - including modelling, software, and consultancy specialists - to deliver projects that make a measurable impact. The role combines technical rigour with creative problem-solving and offers the chance to work directly with clients who rely on our science for decisions that shape resilience and adaptation.
The role is full time; our team has adopted a hybrid working approach with some requirement to work both from home and in the office. We supply basic equipment to support this. You will need to be in the Skipton, BD23 3FD office a minimum of 3 days a week.

You'll have an academic background (PhD or equivalent experience) in climate science, natural hazards, hydrology, statistics, or a related quantitative discipline. You can demonstrate a rigorous, scientific approach, a strong grasp of data analysis, and the ability to apply your knowledge to practical challenges.

Working with climate or hydrological models
Analysing data related to natural catastrophes or climate impacts
Project management and stakeholder engagement
Flood modelling, probabilistic or extreme value analysis
Windows and Linux operating systems
Programming in Bash, R, Python
Understanding of the re/insurance industry or related sectors
Agile (project management) working practices
