Job Description

The successful applicant will have both inpatient and outpatient duties They will need to be confident in the assessment of sick children and have a good understanding of the challenges of managing complex multisystem disorders and diseases of the brain and spinal cord. They will need experience of working in a multidisciplinary team and have excellent verbal and written communication skills They need to be enthusiastic, keen to learn and demonstrate commitment to delivering high quality care as part of the neurosciences team. DUTIES OF THE POST This is a 40-hour post with no on call commitments. The post holder will spend on average 1 day/ week in a ward based role and 4 days/week undertaking outpatient duties.



The outpatient duties will be within the epilepsy service. Epilepsy clinic activity 2-3 clinics per week with dedicated time for NORCESS administration and neurophysiology. There will be dedicated time for CPD to facilitate participation in research and governance projects. The postholder will be able to develop their understanding of research and support will be provided to assist with for projects/publications/ presentations.



There will opportunities to attend at relevant conferences and courses. The postholder will actively contribute to neurophysiology, epilepsy surgery and neuroradiology meetings. Ward work: Assessment and initial management of acute admissions to the neurosciences ward. Day to day care of inpatients on the neurosciences ward including completion of EDANS and discharge letters on days when providing ward cover Attendance and contribution to multidisciplinary meetings and teaching activities.

It is anticipated this will be one day a week. Governance:

The postholder will participate in departmental governance activities, including audit, service evaluation and risk management The postholder will be encouraged to participate in the departmental teaching programme and to actively contribute to meetings. LEVELS OF RESPONSIBILITY This will depend on the successful applicants previous experience. This will be aimed at a senior resident doctor with appropriate SPIN epilepsy experience at the level of ST7 or ST8, or a post CCT doctor in paediatrics .



In the outpatient clinic the post holder will be supported by the Epilepsy MDT. Clinics will be supervised by the epilepsy consultants with planned meetings post clinic. TEACHING AND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING There is an active programme of teaching in the neurosciences department and many opportunities to extend and consolidate knowledge. The postholder will be encouraged to participate in tutorials, case presentations, journal clubs and attending relevant study days internal and within the region.

These documents are available on the Medical Staffing Intranet site. The post holder is required to be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and hold a licence to practice.



Standards of Conduct and Behaviour You are required to work to the standards set out by the General Medical Council in Good Medical Practice. This includes protecting patients when you believe that a doctors or other colleagues conduct, performance or health is a threat to them. If, after establishing the facts, it is necessary, you must follow the Trusts procedures in this matter and inform your Clinical Director or Medical Director in the first instance. The Trust has a set of expected behaviours for all employees and additional behaviours and skills that are expected of managers and supervisors.



Leave Arrangements All leave should be applied for in accordance with the Trusts Leave Policy, normally giving six weeks notice of any leave, other than in exceptional circumstances. Training The jobholder must take responsibility in agreement with his/her line manager for his/her own personal development by ensuring that Continuous Professional Development remains a priority. The jobholder will undertake all mandatory training required for the role.
