ENDOCRINOLOGY SENIOR CLINICAL RESEARCH FELLOW



Applications are invited from medicine staff-in-training (core level training or above) for a full-time research fellow post in endocrinology. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working, a commitment to a career in Endocrinology & Diabetes and an intention to be research-active during career.



The post will commence on 2 nd February 2026 and be for one year in the first instance.



Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board is situated in a vibrant easily accessible part of Wales which combines the best of City life, coast and countryside all within easy reach.



The attractive Welsh coastline and Brecon Beacons National Park are also a convenient day trip away.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



3.1 This is a full time research post. No clinical commitments will be outlined in this job description. Please note that clinical duties undertaken should be agreed with your research supervisor and not be outside the scope of your clinical competence and grade of training. All work undertaken for all services provided by the department within a flexible working week will not be in excess of the 48 hour/week EWTD

regulations.



3.2 RESEARCH - successful candidates will join enthusiastic and dynamic research teams comprising of clinicians, residents and research specialist nurses with ongoing commercial and non-commercial Endocrinology research projects. Successful candidates will be expected to take part in recruitment and data collection for ongoing Endocrinology research studies.



3.3 CLINICAL RESEARCH FACILITY (CRF) - successful candidates will provide clinical cover for any research studies pertaining to their subspecialty that involve the patient clinical trial journey taking them via the CRF.



3.4 Candidates must be GCP (Good Clinical Practice) trained.



3.5 CARDIFF & VALE RESEARCH FELLOW PROGRAMME - all successful

candidates will automatically become part of the Research Fellow Programme in Cardiff & Vale.



3.6 A fellow would be supported to attend departmental teaching and training sessions where possible on further discussion with the clinical director.

Base location:

University Hospital of Wales (post may include commitments at other sites within Cardiff and Vale UHB)



Duration :

12 months (extendable to 36 months)

Accountability:



The post holder will be professionally accountable to the Medical Director and Clinical Directorate of the Integrated Medicine Directorate. The Post Holder managerially accountable to Dr Danielle Huckle (Mentor for Research Fellows)



Purpose:



Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (C&V UHB) aims to be a leading international centre for research, significantly increasing the amount of research available to its patients and cultivating future Principal Investigators (PIs).



To achieve these goals, the Endocrinology Senior Clinical Research Fellow post is designed to:



Support delivery and uplift of clinical trial activity within C&V UHB's Endocrinology department.

Equip the postholder with practical experience and education in setting up and delivering clinical trials.

Support the postholder's personal development objectives through other educational activities during the fellowship, such as undertaking a personal research project for an MD or PhD.



Working Environment



The postholder will be based in the Endocrinology department at University Hospital of Wales (UHW), collaborating with senior researchers on clinical trial delivery in an established clinical academic setting. The department is conveniently located near the Clinical Research Facility, where Endocrinology research trials are primarily conducted and supported by an experienced nursing and administrative research delivery team. The overall research activity spans Phases 1 to 3, including First-in-Human and Advanced Medical (Cell and Gene) Therapies.



Depending on the profile of clinical trials work, the postholder may deliver some or all of their trial activity at other C&V UHB sites. It is a condition of employment that the postholder is prepared to work at any location owned or served by the Health Board, as service demands require.



Oversight



The fellow will receive primary oversight and support from Dr Danielle Huckle (Mentor for Research Fellows). Additionally, the fellow will have a named lead within the Endocrinology specialty, typically their Clinical Board or Directorate R&D Lead, or the Principal Investigator for the trials they are primarily involved with.
