Your role:



Your duties will be varied and will include leading on coastal engineering options appraisal and design for a variety of flood and coastal defence schemes, mentoring junior staff and providing quality assurance for their work. You will play a key role in the delivery of our FCERM programme of works through our role as delivery partner to the Environment Agency on the CDF Framework in the south of England, delivering some of the largest coastal schemes in the UK.

You will also support our ongoing coastal infrastructure projects for local authorities, Network Rail, private developers and contractors.

Our workload is primarily focused on FCERM projects, that involve a full life cycle from strategy, through options appraisal and detailed design. Our engineers work within multi-disciplinary project teams helping us to find the most economic and sustainable design solutions. In addition to the FCERM work, we also provide support to Network Rail and various local authorities in relation to the management of coastal infrastructure.

The successful candidate will work closely with engineers and other technical staff and will involve a significant degree of cross office working.

The role will include:



Managing a team to undertake technical design work following relevant design standards and codes.

Preparation of briefs, scopes of work, and input into bid proposals.

The management of time and budgets to meet key project milestones and programmes.

A degree (or equivalent) in civil or coastal engineering is essential. The right candidate is expected to progress towards, or already hold, membership of the ICE or other appropriate institutions. We can offer support with progression towards professional qualification if not already achieved.

Essential attributes for the role:



Proven design consultancy experience.

Demonstrable experience of leading coastal engineering design and options appraisal

Ability to lead the appraisal, design and QA for a variety of coastal structures.

Ability to manage a team to undertake technical design work following relevant design standards and codes.

Experience in preparing briefs and scopes of work.

Ability to successfully manage time and budgets to key project milestones and programmes.

Experience of working in a client-focussed organisation.

Effective report writing and communication skills.

Self-motivation and a high degree of organisation.

Desirable attributes for the role:



Site experience including construction supervision would be advantageous.

Experience of input into bid proposals.
