Do you have excellent conservation knowledge and experience? We're looking for someone to lead our Collections Care team, supervising the day-to-day upkeep of Harewood's public and store areas. You'll lead on the preventative and remedial conservation of our varied Designated collection, sharing technical support and expertise with the wider team.
MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE
To ensure the care of Harewood House's collections and interiors through high standards of preventative and remedial conservation, following Museums Accreditation standards of care. We are looking for someone innovative and proactive, with experience in coaching teams and co-ordinating volunteers, championing the highest standards of collections care and practice.
KEY RESULT AREAS
Collections care
Under the direction of the Collections Manager & Registrar, lead the Collections Care team in planning and delivering the annual schedule for the cleaning and preservation of collections objects and historic interiors both on public display and in store.
Lead the Collections Care team in undertaking the daily clean of the State Floor, ensuring high standards of collections care and presentation are maintained in all areas.
Lead on the planning and delivering of cleaning schedules for stores and objects.
Carrying out condition surveys of object and items as directed by the Collections Manager & Registrar.
Manage the Collections team to plan and deliver 'Conservation in Action' projects and actively engage with the general public to promote understanding of conservation practices and activities, championing engagement with collections care.
Be a key user of the collections management system (MuseumPlus) to maintain an accurate record of object locations; to keep a record of cleaning activities; and to monitor and document object conditions.
Support the Collections Manager & Registrar in the management of environmental and pest monitoring in the House.
Oversee the weekly clock winding and annual clock maintenance programme.
Conservation
Undertake minor conservation treatments as needed under the direction of the Collections Manager & Registrar, and develop and complete discrete conservation projects, including, when appropriate, the co-ordination of volunteers to support the projects.
Maintain comprehensive written and photographic records of any conservation work carried out.
Assist the Collections Manager & Registrar in risk rating and long term planning of specialist conservation works.
Be responsible for the mounting and framing of works for exhibitions.
Conduct research into objects to ensure historical accuracy of conservation work.
Other
Under the direction of the Collections Manager & Registrar, assist with the installation and de-installation of exhibitions as required.
Work to ensure COSHH guidelines and risk assessments are up-to-date and appropriate for our activities. Under the direction of the Collections Manager and Registrar be part of a regular program of reviewing and updating the COSHH and health and safety files.
Be part of a rota to monitor the running of events, functions and filming in the house with the purpose of safeguarding the interiors and collections.

Special Conditions
This role involves regular manual handling tasks such as lifting and carrying objects. It also involves working at height, using specialist tools and equipment, and working in low light environments.
You will ocassionally be required to work outside normal hours including evenings, weekends and bank holidays for events, functions or filming.
