The Senior Communications Officer reports into the Head of Marketing and Strategic Communications and is responsible for leading St Giles Hospice's communications in line with the overall organisational strategy. They will line manage the External Communications Coordinator and the Social Media and Digital Content Coordinator.

The Senior Communications Officer has responsibility for St Giles' internal and external communications. The role encompasses all functions across the hospice, including clinical services and income generation, and will focus on raising awareness and engagement, both locally and nationally, to:

Increase visibility and awareness of hospice services

Enhance stakeholder engagement

Strengthen media relationships for timely and accurate coverage

Amplify the hospice's voice on critical issues affecting the sector

Support income generation efforts

Working with the External Communications Coordinator, the Senior Communications Officer will lead on the creation and development of compelling and accessible external communications for a range of audiences, build trust in and commitment to St Giles Hospice and ensure St Giles' connects with its stakeholders. Senior Communications Officer will lead on the internal communications programme for both volunteers and staff at St Giles working closely with departments across the organisation, in particular the People and Organisational Development team, to plan and coordinate communications needs.

The Senior Communications Officer will work closely with, and deputise for the Senior Marketing Officer, to ensure a collaborative approach to the organisation's marketing and communications activity.

Qualifications

Relevant communications, PR or media qualification/s

Knowledge and experience



Essential

Proven experience as a communications professional, or similar role, preferably within the third sector Experience of brand guardianship Knowledge and experience of photography and videography
Experience of working with a broad range of stakeholders

Experience of working with local and national journalists including broadcast and print

Knowledge of reporting and KPIs in a communications role
Desirable

Experience of line management within a Communications team or similar
Experience of working with service users to creatively and sensitively tell their story

A good understanding of the principles and practices of charity or not for profit organisations communications Experience of working in the third sector Experience of working in a busy Communications team
Experience of implementing strategic communications objectives
