Are you passionate about the historic built environment?
Kirklees Council is seeking a qualified Senior Conservation Officer to provide expert advice and support on heritage matters across the district. Ideally, you will be a full member of the IHBC or working towards membership.
This is an exciting opportunity to help conserve and manage over 4,500 listed buildings and 60 conservation areas, shaping the future of our historic places and influencing the forthcoming Local Plan. You will play a key role in delivering heritage-led projects, including The Cultural Heart, The George Hotel, the TransPennine Rail Upgrade, and regeneration schemes in Marsden, Batley, and Dewsbury.
Kirklees offers a rich and varied historic environment, from former mill towns to Pennine countryside bordering the Peak District National Park. As part of our Conservation, Design, Ecology & Trees team within Development Management, you will work alongside other specialist teams, including DM planning, planning policy, regeneration & town centres, biodiversity, landscape and arboriculture.
As the Council's Senior Conservation Officer, you will provide authoritative heritage advice, guidance and support to colleagues, customers and stakeholders. You will provide pre application advice and guidance on heritage issues, and case manage and respond to Listed Building consultations and DM consultations affecting the historic environment from the planning teams.
If you are a driven and committed heritage professional with a passion for public sector working and a desire to positively shape and influence on all heritage related matters within planning, then come and join our fantastic, multi-disciplinary team. This is an excellent platform for you to progress a professional career in the historic environment.
We offer flexible and hybrid working, generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, access to employee healthcare, and offer great development opportunities. A retention payment of 3,000 per annum also applies to this role (subject to eligibility).
