Arriva London is seeking a
Senior Controller
for the
Purley Way Control Centre
, a key role within the
Route Management Team
. This position reports directly to the
Control Centre Manager
and is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the iBus Control Centre. The successful candidate will ensure Arriva London meets or exceeds the performance and service standards set by
Transport for London (TfL)
and
Arriva

Key Responsibilities
Service Quality & Control
Manage the daily regulation of bus routes to exceed QIC standards and targets.
Lead control operations during emergency situations, following the agreed reporting procedures.
Minimize service disruption through effective use of control strategies including curtailments, projections, holding, and regulating departures.
Use local route knowledge to implement safe, efficient diversions.
Maintain accurate, audit-ready performance logs and paperwork.
Build positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Monitor service control using Hyperion and other systems, providing regular reports and insights.
Ensure adherence to mitigation and service control strategies, including timely communication with stakeholders.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Oversee and supervise controllers on a shift basis, ensuring efficient deployment aligned with business needs.
Identify training needs, conduct assessments, and implement development plans for controllers.
Mentor and coach both new and experienced controllers to uphold Arriva standards.
Foster a collaborative working environment with operations, engineering, and commercial teams.
Address underperformance or behavioural issues through appropriate action, including investigations or escalation where necessary.
Ensure compliance with PCV regulations and the Road Traffic Act, including monitoring driver hours and safety practices.
Conduct live mileage checks to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal standards.

Service Planning & Project Support
Contribute to service change proposals through data analysis, observations, and recommendations.
Identify and report consistent gaps or inefficiencies in service delivery.
Support initiatives to improve operational effectiveness and customer satisfaction.

Garage Duties (as required)
Supervise garage operations, including opening/closing, run-out coordination, and casualty cover.
Handle lost property or cash duties in the absence of a GSA or controller.
Perform general administrative and support tasks to maintain smooth garage operations.

Other Duties
Conduct operational observations and investigations as directed.
Attend site visits and stakeholder meetings.
Undertake any other reasonable tasks in line with operational needs.

Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to collaborate across departments and stakeholder groups.
High level of commercial awareness with a focus on cost efficiency.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
Solid working knowledge of iBus systems and relevant control centre technologies.
