Based in Leicester within easy access to most of the UK, we pride ourselves in completing the highest quality design, manufacture and install of a full smoke ventilation life safety system for well-known prestigious clients.

The Role



We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Controls Engineer to lead the design, development, and commissioning of control systems and systems for our smoke ventilation projects. You will be responsible for the full project lifecycle, from initial concept design to final site acceptance testing, ensuring all systems meet stringent UK fire safety regulations and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities



Design and Development:

Produce and review technical designs for smoke control systems, and aid with control panel design.

Software Engineering:

Write and modify software for control panels, PLCs (e.g., Schneider, Omron), and HMIs to meet project specifications.

Technical Leadership:

Provide technical expertise and guidance to the design, commissioning, and project teams. Mentor junior software engineers and provide continuous improvement.

Project Management Support:

Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of control systems. Participate in project meetings and provide regular technical updates.

Production Support:

System Commissioning and Testing:

Lead the on-site commissioning of complex smoke control systems

Support the service and maintenance department:

Provide on site and remote support for the service team

Compliance and Documentation:

Ensure all designs and systems comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., BS 9991, BS 7346, EN 12101) and Building Regulations. Compile and maintain accurate technical documentation.

Troubleshooting:

Diagnose and resolve complex control system issues and provide technical support to internal and external clients.

Required Qualifications & Skills



A minimum of [5+] years of experience in controls engineering Proven experience in the design, programming, and commissioning of control panels and systems. Strong knowledge of PLC and HMI and VSD programming (e.g., Schneider, Omron). Commissioning of building control systems. Physically fit to carry out work on construction sites Ability to read, interpret, and produce electrical schematics and control diagrams. Experience with communication protocols such as Modbus, and TCP/IP. Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a meticulous attention to detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience in client-facing roles. Full UK driving license is required
