Are you an experienced Senior Credit Controller looking for a new challenge?
Join our finance team and play a key role in supporting the financial health of a growing group of care homes committed to delivering exceptional care across the UK.
About the role:
As a Senior Credit Controller within a care provider organisation, you will play a pivotal role in managing and improving the company's debt collection processes, ensuring timely payment from clients, local authorities, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), and private funders. This role requires a sensitive but firm approach to collections, particularly when dealing with service users and families.
You will oversee the credit control team, monitor aged debt, implement effective credit policies, and maintain positive working relationships across finance, care management, and external stakeholders
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the full credit control function, ensuring the timely collection of outstanding debts.
Maintain and monitor the aged debt report, investigating and resolving issues efficiently.
Liaise professionally with local authorities, NHS bodies, CCGs, private clients, and families regarding overdue payments and invoice queries.
Set and review credit limits in line with organisational policy and risk appetite.
Develop and implement robust credit control processes and procedures.
Prepare regular reports for senior management on debtors, cash flow, and collections performance.
Work closely with the finance team to reconcile accounts and allocate payments correctly.
Handle sensitive information with discretion and compassion, especially in dealings with vulnerable individuals and their families.
Supervise and mentor junior credit control staff
Lead on legal recovery processes where necessary, in collaboration with external solicitors or collection agencies.
Ensure compliance with financial regulations, GDPR, and company policies.
Proactively manage and maintain your own portfolio of customer accounts, ensuring timely collection of outstanding balances in line with company credit terms.
This is a hands-on role, managing both your own portfolio of accounts as well as supporting and guiding the wider credit control team to ensure overall performance targets are achieved.
Essential Skills Qualifications:
Proven experience as a senior credit controller, ideally in a care, healthcare, or public sector environment.
Experience dealing with local authority and funding processes is highly desirable.
Strong understanding of credit control procedures and financial regulations.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to handle difficult conversations tactfully.
High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
Strong IT skills, including MS Excel and accounting systems (e.g. Sage,care systems or similar).
A proactive and solutions-oriented mindset.
Ability to manage a busy and varied workload remotely
Qualifications:
AAT qualification or equivalent (desirable).
Training or qualification in credit management (e.g., CICM) is advantageous.
