Barlborough, Derbyshire (Hybrid/Flexible working options available) but a prerequisite is minimum 3 days pw in Office

The Role



We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled

Senior Data Engineer/Architect

to lead the technical design, development, and implementation of our new enterprise data platform. You will be instrumental in conducting a significant

data migration

from legacy systems and designing and building a robust

data warehouse

optimized for our extensive travel data.

Key Responsibilities



Data Architecture & Strategy



Design and implement a scalable, high-performance

data solution architecture

for the enterprise data warehouse and associated data pipelines, leveraging

cloud infrastructure

(e.g., Azure, AWS, or GCP). Define the overall data strategy, data governance, and data security standards for the new platform. Lead the technical planning and execution of the large-scale

data migration

project, ensuring data integrity, quality, and minimal downtime.

Data Engineering & Development



Design and implement logical and physical

data modelling

schemas (e.g., Star Schema, Snowflake) appropriate for analytical and reporting needs. Develop robust

ETL/ELT development techniques

and processes for data ingestion,

data staging

, and transformation, including managing data flows from various source systems. Establish efficient

data extraction processes

from both internal and external data sources. Ensure the data warehouse is optimized for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency.

Collaboration & Leadership



Work closely with business stakeholders, BI developers, and analysts to translate complex business requirements into technical data solutions. Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior data team members. Evaluate and recommend new

Data Warehouse Technologies

and

business intelligence tools

to enhance the platform's capabilities.

Essential Skills and Experience



Extensive experience as a Data Engineer or Data Architect, with a proven track record of delivering end-to-end data warehousing and large-scale data migration projects. Deep expertise in

data solution architecture

principles and best practices, particularly within a cloud environment. Expert-level proficiency in

data modelling

(conceptual, logical, physical) and database design. Strong hands-on experience with

ETL/ELT development techniques

and tools. Excellent working knowledge of SQL and experience with one or more major

Data Warehouse Technologies

(e.g., Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Azure Synapse Analytics, Amazon Redshift). Solid understanding of cloud data services and

cloud infrastructure

(Azure preferred, but AWS or GCP is valuable). Experience in setting up

data staging

and ensuring data quality throughout the pipeline. Familiarity with various

business intelligence tools

(e.g., Power BI, Tableau) from a data perspective.
