SENIOR DECORATIVE ARTIST
We are seeking a senior decorative artist with a specialism in the installation of specialist wall coverings.
To apply for the position of senior decorative artist you should have experience working in the industry and of working on site locations. You would be familiar with each of the following
Basic preparatory decoration
Oil and Acrylic Glaze finishes
Wall-covering printing or manufacture
Polished and burnished plaster finishes
Painted faux finishes
Timber finishes/French polishing
Mirror and glass finishes/gilding
You will need to be capable of mixing exact colours to specification in any paint media, a critical skill that underpins all studio and site practice.
Experience in handling a range of media, oil and acrylic, scumble-glazes, gesso and casein bound pigments, gouache and watercolour, tempera, encaustic, distemper colour washing & limewash is a vital requirement, along with a strong understanding of their properties and uses.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years' experience in handling hand-painted papers, textured paper, fabric and digital prints, ensuring flawless installations for high-end luxury interiors.
On Site Installation
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare walls by cleaning, smoothing, priming, and repairing surfaces as needed
Measure and cut wallpaper accurately to ensure seamless pattern matching and minimal waste
Apply a variety of wall coverings, including paper, vinyl, fabric, silk, and specialty finishes
Align and install wallpaper with precision, ensuring no bubbles, creases, or misalignments
Work with adhesives and pastes suitable for different materials and surfaces
Handle and install delicate, high-end, and custom wallpapers with extreme care
Collaborate with designers, architects, and clients to meet project specifications
Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring the protection of surrounding surfaces and furniture
Troubleshoot and correct any issues during installation to achieve a perfect finish
Stay up to date with new wallpapering techniques, materials, and tools
Requirements:
Proven experience as a professional wallpaper hanger, in high-end residential and commercial projects
Strong knowledge of different wallpaper types and application techniques
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with precision
Ability to read and interpret design plans and measurements
Skilled in surface preparation and wall repair
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Good physical fitness and dexterity, with the ability to work at heights if necessary
Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability
Professional approach and excellent customer service skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with bespoke and luxury wall coverings
Knowledge of historical and decorative wallpaper applications
Familiarity with specialist finishes and techniques
Other requirements:
Computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel are required
A working knowledge of any of the following software is desirable; Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, AUTOCAD or Vector works
A valid Driving License is required
Health and Safety CITB certification
PASMA ladders and scaffold safety certification
Emergency First Aid at Work certification
