To deliver technically robust and compliant primary plant designs for high-voltage (HV) substations, supporting project delivery across all phases from concept to construction. The Senior Design Engineer will develop substation layouts, coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams, and ensure that client specifications and industry standards are fully met.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Including but not limited to:
Design Development
Produce HV substation primary layout designs for voltage levels typically between 132kV and 400kV, including busbar configurations, equipment positioning, and clearances. Technical Documentation
Prepare and review drawings and documentation including general arrangements, plant layout plans, elevation views, sections, and cable routing plans. Standards Compliance
Ensure that all designs comply with relevant client specifications (e.g. SSEN, National Grid TS, ENA TS) and industry standards (e.g. IEC, BS EN, CDM 2015). Design Coordination
Work closely with civil, secondary, protection, and control engineers to deliver coordinated and constructible designs. Support multidisciplinary design reviews. Client and Stakeholder Engagement
Support technical discussions with clients and participate in design reviews, HAZID workshops, and progress meetings when required. Quality and Assurance
Contribute to internal design reviews and ensure technical quality of deliverables. Support the development of standard drawings and design processes. Mentoring and Support
Assist junior engineers and graduate designers with technical development, drawing interpretation, and compliance with engineering procedures. Construction Support
Respond to technical queries (TQs) and requests for information (RFIs) during construction. Assist with redlining and as-built documentation.
