Job Summary:


To safely manage, co-ordinate, integrate and assure the design for the Network Rail elements of the Project, meeting the Project Requirements set out in the Contracts of the client. The Senior Design Manager must coordinate and manage all members of the Design Management Organisation including supply chain, being the Accountable Person empowered to fulfil the self-certification of the Works as per the Main Contract and is responsible for implementing the Contractor's compliance processes.

Key Responsibilities:

To develop the design to achieve a safe, buildable, operational and maintainable asset that is compliant with Standards and meets the Project Requirements. To create a high performing team through the setting of clear SMART targets via the team plan and complying with the performance management process for all team members. To develop an approach to design driven by value that enables collaborative working and deliver the requirements of the collaboration protocol throughout the team. To develop and implement a Design Management Plan and BIM Execution Plan including a SMART schedule of deliverables complying with both Contract and Project requirements. To provide Assurance to the Employer that the works have been designed in accordance with the Project Requirements and taking into consideration the constraints detailed in the Contract. To manage multidisciplinary design coordination, managing interface risk and clash checking, chairing and recording IDC/IDR's and technical progressive design reviews. To ensure and demonstrate that all designers working on the project are suitably qualified and competent to carry out the design. Manage and coordinate the packaging of the designs to support construction programme. To ensure that the design supports the works and the operation of Network Rail's Euston Station, and London Underground Network, through all phases of the Project. Comply with the client requirements and the management plans using an approach based on the Collaboration Protocol and the eight Quality Management Principles.

Technical Competencies:

Demonstrated leadership in the application of Network Rail Technical Assurance Procedures NR/L2/RSE/02009 & NR/L2/CIV/003 and Network Rail stakeholder management Excellent communication skills (including presentation skills) in English, and the ability to report at both Project and Board level. Knowledge of the relevant regulations, including: Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, Construction Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations 1996 Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007 Management of health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and Organisation skills People management/ team building skills. Computer skills, including a working knowledge of BIM, Autocad, and the use of collaborative platforms.

Qualifications, Certifications and Experience:

Educated to degree or higher level or equivalent in a numerate discipline, typically Engineering discipline (or related). A lower educational level, typically HNC or HND, may be acceptable where significant level of experience in a senior technical engineering role can be demonstrated. Membership of an appropriate Professional body, or an international equivalent professional status. Extensive experience in managing multi discipline and system design projects, from concept through detail and construction. Experience in projects encompassing similar works schemes (type, size, complexity and environment), with a particular focus on rail and London Underground facing works. Appropriate CSCS, and sentinel card. Proven track record of delivering projects to time and budget, together with an exemplary safety, quality and sustainability record.
