We are looking for an experienced, solution led, and detail oriented Senior Technical Designer to join our growing team. Reporting to the Head of Production, this role acts as a senior figure within the Technical Design function, not only delivering high quality design outputs but steering technical direction, ensuring build feasibility, and supporting the wider team with experience and leadership.
As a Senior Technical Designer, you will bridge the gap between creative design and fabrication, working to bring innovative concepts to life through practical manufacturing knowledge. You will lead on complex design projects, often owning the technical approach from concept through to installation, overseeing construction from a design point of view, and providing guidance on technical problem solving and solutioning. You will support and mentor junior designers, ensure design intent is protected during fabrication, and act as a steady, experienced voice who brings calm judgement and clear decision making.
You will work across multiple projects of varying size and complexity alongside a team of Production Managers, clearly detailing the correct technical solutions and fabrication methodologies. Drawings will be used to communicate directly with the Workshop and external fabrication suppliers. Work will also include creating clear site and survey packs to document installs, de-rigs and site surveys. The role requires someone confident working across jobs simultaneously, ensuring that projects are executed to company and client standards in a compliant, safe and industry leading way.
Key Responsibilities:
Providing both conceptual and detailed visual representation of projects at various stages of their lifecycle - enabling projects to move through stakeholders and achieve the relevant sign offs.
Leading technical design output on assigned projects, ensuring solutions are buildable, safe, cost effective and aligned with creative intent.
Creating accurate and articulate technical fabrication drawings for the Workshop and third party fabrication partners.
Overseeing fabrication from a design perspective, resolving technical queries, attending workshop reviews and ensuring final build aligns with design intent.
Acting as a technical problem solver, advising on materials, construction methods, assembly logic, tolerances and installation techniques.
Providing mentorship and guidance to junior and mid-weight technical designers, supporting skill development and consistent drawing standards.
Protecting brand and company integrity by upholding construction standards, meeting and supporting our defined ways of working / manufacture.
Producing clear site install, de-rig, and survey packs, ensuring safe and well-coordinated delivery on site.
Working collaboratively with Production Managers, Creative Designers, Workshop teams and external suppliers.
Driving continual improvement and innovation in fabrication methods, drawing efficiency, modular thinking and project delivery.
Candidate:
Successful candidates will have a strong background in Technical Design and be comfortable working in an office environment whilst also supporting design queries directly on the workshop floor or on site. They must have a methodical, collaborative, thorough and focused approach, with the maturity to lead design discussions and make informed decisions.
You will have:
5+ years of Technical Design experience, with a strong track record of leading fabrication projects from design concept through to final build.
A full driving licence is required for this position.
Strong knowledge of fabrication techniques, including cabinetry, timber construction, metalwork and mixed materials, with the ability to balance aesthetics with technical feasibility.
Proficiency in 3D modelling software (Vectorworks and Fusion 360 preferred) and advanced skills in 2D technical drawing and draughting with a solid understanding of manufacturing standards.
Demonstrated experience in design for manufacturing, with an ability to consider cost efficiency, weight, transport, installation and production complexity during the design process.
Exceptional problem solving skills with a solution oriented mindset, the ability to work under pressure, and a methodical approach to challenges.
An unparalleled attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring high quality execution of complex projects.
Excellent communication skills - able to liaise respectfully with internal teams (client, technical, production, creative) and external stakeholders, translating technical requirements across disciplines with clarity, diplomacy and humility. A strong team player who listens, collaborates and builds trust.
Proven ability to lead, prioritise and organise workload efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
A strong ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team, with a flexible, 'can-do' attitude and willingness to take on various tasks as required.
Desirable: Experience mentoring or guiding junior designers, overseeing technical output, supporting project or workflow management, and contributing to the coordination or development of team processes and departmental ways of working.
Preferable Additions
Knowledge of set build and the live event industry
Proficiency across SketchUp and/or Adobe Suite
Knowledge of the Aluvision modular system
